Sienna's gaze landed on her phone screen.
She blinked.
Again?
Connecting this to what her father had just told her, she guessed he had rushed over to claim credit right after solving her problem.
So, just like last night.
Sienna calmly threw on a coat, calmly grabbed a trash bag, and calmly walked out of the living room.
Amidst her nearly silent steps, her father called out, halting her calm departure.
"Going out to take the trash again?"
"Yeah..."
"More fruit cores?"
"Yeah..."
"You don't need to go downstairs. Just tie it up and leave it by your door. I'll take it down for you later."
"No, I have to throw away my own trash. It's the most basic self-awareness I should have as a member of this family," Sienna declared righteously. Ignoring whatever George said next, she straightened her back with a serious expression.
She calmly headed downstairs.
-
Jorrod was still standing where she had left him.
Sienna quickened her pace.
This time, without waiting for him to speak, she hurriedly pulled open the car door and slid into the backseat, terrified her parents might spot her from the window.
Her movements were fast and frantic.
Jorrod paused for a moment, silent, before following right behind her and ducking into the seat beside her.
As he settled in and looked up, Jorrod took in her simple outfit and frowned.
She was still only wearing pajamas underneath.
The coat she had draped over her shoulders caught the chilly night breeze, highlighting her slender frame.
He reached out and pinched the fabric, noting it was even thinner than the coat she wore yesterday.
