Jorrod was completely dazed the entire time.

He looked up, his eyes swimming with confusion.

Sienna leaned down, gripping his shoulders. She held her index finger right in front of his face and met his gaze levelly.

She instructed him, enunciating every word clearly. "Listen to me. They don't have what I need here, so I'm going to check the store across the street. Just wait for me right here."

Panic flared in Jorrod's eyes. The moment his hips left the seat, she shoved him back down.

His dark brows knotted together, his expression a picture of pure reluctance.

Fighting through the sharp ache of anxiety in his chest, he frantically tried to explain, "I don't want to wait here. I can go with you. Darling, please don't leave me here alone."

Sienna obviously couldn't agree to that.

The supermarket's front doors were directly in front of where Jorrod was sitting. Across a single street, anyone entering or leaving the building was plainly visible.

"See that? It's right across the street. You'll be able to see me."

Jorrod followed the direction of her finger to the supermarket in the distance.

He pressed his lips into a thin line, his jaw tight. The hands resting on his knees curled into fists from the tension.

Sienna added another incentive. "If you behave, I'll let you hold my hand from now on."

At her words, Jorrod's gaze snapped back, landing on her face in sheer disbelief.

A flicker of guilt squeezed Sienna's chest. She cleared her throat reflexively and looked away.

Great. Why did she feel like she was manipulating a naive child?

"Can I hug you, too?" Jorrod asked cautiously, equal parts hopeful for her answer and terrified she would get angry.

Sienna answered without missing a beat. "Sure."
