I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 43

The store clerks were staring at Sienna's retreating back just as intently as Jorrod was.

Scott had witnessed their intimate kiss, and it was impossible for him not to feel crushed.

He had initially thought that the name Liam Carter was just an excuse Sienna used to reject him, but seeing them actually kiss destroyed any remaining hope. Telling himself it was just a lie would only be an act of self-deception now.

Scott let out a heavy sigh, his gaze drifting back to study the flawless side profile of the man sitting in the dining area.

Beside him, a colleague's murmurs reached his ears. "Same face, totally different fate. They look so alike, but one is a ruthless corporate titan who'd betray his own family, while the other looks like his world is ending just because his girlfriend stepped out to the supermarket."

Another clerk nodded in agreement. "Yeah, but honestly, I prefer this one. He's so sweet. Just look at those puppy-dog eyes—so desperately devoted. He's definitely obedient."

"True. A guy like Jorrod Vaughn would probably scheme the pants off me before I even realized what hit me."

On the street.

Sienna kept aggressively wiping the back of her hand against her kissed lips.

She rubbed them until they felt swollen. The physical sensation on her mouth was gone, but the erratic flutter in her chest simply wouldn't fade.

It wasn't the flutter of romance, though—it was sheer lingering dread.

If Jorrod ever regained his memory, this would be a permanent stain on her criminal record.

She didn't even need to turn around to know that his gaze was undoubtedly locked onto her through the glass window, unblinking.

As for how she planned to lose him? Sienna scoffed at Jorrod's naivety.

Whoever said a supermarket only had one exit?

She made it to the office just in time.

Leaning back in her chair, she let her body sink into the comfortable support and stared blankly at the ceiling.

After days of chaotic living, she finally had her peace and quiet back.

They were two completely unrelated strangers who had literally been on the verge of a legal battle. She had taken him in for two days, taken him to the hospital, and treated his wounds. She had already gone above and beyond.

Yet, she felt an undeniable emptiness in her chest, a creeping unease as if she had committed a terrible crime.

It just proved that a person couldn't afford to have too much of a conscience.

Sienna sat up straight, pulled a fresh notebook from her drawer, and forced herself to sketch.

Sienna ignored him, the only response being the sharp scratch of her pen against the paper.

"I'm talking to you! Are you deaf?"

Since Sienna had joined the company, she had frequently outshined Yardley. There were even rumors that Director Langdon wanted her to take over his position as Vice Director, meaning the two of them never saw eye to eye.

Already in a foul mood, Sienna turned and glared at him. "Director Langdon specifically assigned me to this project. As long as we are still within the project timeline, I don't believe you have any authority to interfere with my progress, Vice Director."

Yardley turned red with anger. "Director Langdon wants to see you. Go to her office."

Sienna gave him a sideways glance, stood up, and brushed past him.

In the office, Director Langdon was waiting.

The woman with short chestnut hair wore a crisp white suit. With slender fingers, she pushed a steaming, elegant teacup across the desk.

"Have a seat, Sienna."

Not knowing what this was about, Sienna sat down in confusion.

Leona then slid her phone across the table, the volume turned up high.
