Chop it off... chop it off... chop it off...
Sienna's eyes flew wide open in absolute terror!
The last time he was upset, he merely threatened her with a lawsuit. Now he was bypassing the legal system entirely to chop her hand off?!
That was her right hand! The hand she used to eat, draw her designs, and cop a feel!
"Jorrod! No!"
Sienna violently jerked her head up from the desk, gasping desperately for air. Her heart hammered wildly against her ribs in sheer panic, and a fine layer of cold sweat coated her forehead.
She didn't know how long she had been asleep, but it had grown significantly darker outside. The sky was heavy and oppressive, completely shrouded by the torrential rain as if draped in a thick black cloth.
Clutching her chest, which was still heaving from the nightmare, she grabbed her phone to check the time.
One-thirty in the afternoon. It was exactly time to start working again.
All around her, her colleagues were casting suspicious glances in her direction.
Two sharp, sarcastic claps echoed through the room.
"Look at that, everyone. Witness Sienna Quinn's unparalleled dedication. Even in her sleep, she's agonizing over our competitors. You all really need to learn from her proactive spirit."
It was Yardley, his mouth dripping with venom.
Usually, Sienna's temper would flare up and she would fire back immediately. But in this moment, she had absolutely no energy to deal with him. Her mind was entirely consumed by the scene outside.
Beyond the row of office windows, the storm raged.
Dark clouds completely blocked the sun. Raindrops relentlessly battered the glass, resembling a dense, inescapable net of water that cast a miserable gloom over everything.
Jorrod...
He couldn't still be waiting for her, could he?
Sienna forcefully dragged her gaze away and tried to resume her work, but her thoughts were entirely hijacked by the deafening crackle of the downpour outside.
She kept telling herself one thing.
Once the rain stopped, the crushing weight of her guilt would finally ease.
She sighed heavily. "No umbrella. But he's not an idiot. He obviously knows to find shelter when it rains, right?"
As the words left her mouth, Sienna fell utterly silent.
Ironically enough, the guy actually was kind of an idiot right now.
She quickly added, "He's not that stupid."
Following her statement, another long, telling silence stretched between them.
After a long moment, Elara finally spoke up. "Whatever you decide, I support you. Honestly, none of this was your problem to begin with, so just do what feels right. Given the horrible things Jorrod said to you and the lawsuit he threatened, taking him in for this long means you've already gone above and beyond."
Sienna didn't know if she had gone above and beyond, but she knew she was incredibly stressed right now.
Her head felt like it was splitting open, though she wasn't sure if it was from sleeping too long or the overwhelming guilt of abandoning him.
Two entirely opposite lines of reasoning were violently warring inside her head.
One voice reminded her that they were essentially enemies, so treating him like this was completely justified.
