I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 72

"No, this is different! I saw her myself. Marcus Lawson personally welcomed her. She didn't even go through the normal interview channels; she bypassed everything straight into Admin."

"What? A nepotism hire for management?"

"Not quite."

"I saw her too. She's stunning. I honestly thought she was a model brought in for the new product line."

"I heard she graduated from Stanton University with a degree in design. Admin is probably just a stepping stone. Her real target is the Design Department..."

"Oh, now I get it. That makes a lot more sense..."

Sitting at the table behind them, Liam caught every single word.

He wasn't naturally nosy, but he was an alumni of Stanton University's design program.

Anyone from his alma mater immediately grabbed his attention.

But that wasn't the main issue. The main issue was that it inexplicably made him think of Sienna Quinn.

Ever since she blocked him, they had been out of contact for far too long. He admitted he was in the wrong back then, but he didn't think it was that big of a deal.

They were a couple, which meant they were a team. Sienna was just being overly defensive and treating him like an outsider.

Considering Sienna checked every single one of his boxes for a perfect partner—except for her temper—he wasn't ready to just give up on her so easily.

Liam was just waiting for his girlfriend to cool off. Once this busy period at work was over, he fully intended to show up at her door and win her back.

Liam had been taught from a young age to be smooth, to network strategically, and to avoid useless socializing. With his handsome looks, capable skills, and management's favor, he had already rubbed elbows with several mid-level bosses despite only being at the company for a month.

Later that afternoon, he ordered a coffee for Sandra Sutton from HR.

When he dropped it off, he casually brought it up. "Sandra, I heard we got a new hire today, and Marcus personally handled the onboarding."

"How did you hear about that?" Sandra took a sip of her coffee. "Oh, what a coincidence. She actually went to your university."

Liam watched as three syllables slipped past Sandra's lips.

Sienna Quinn.

"Sienna Quinn?"

"Oh, you actually do know her!" Sandra had only mentioned it casually, entirely unprepared for his strong reaction.

She smiled knowingly. "She's in Admin. Since you know her, you should go down and catch up after work."

With a gossipy glint in her eye, Sandra patted Liam on the shoulder. "She's gorgeous. You two would make a cute couple."

During her lunch break, Sienna ordered takeout for Jorrod.

While waiting for Mindy to finish eating, her anxiety got the better of her, and she dialed the spare phone she had left at the apartment.

His amnesia hadn't changed the man's vocal cords.

"Darling, the apartment is very empty."

Sienna didn't answer.

She just listened as he continued to speak into the silence.

"And it's very quiet."

"The potted plant in the living room has some dead leaves. I don't know how to take care of it."

"It needs you..."

"I need..." you.

"I get it. I told you, I'll come back a bit earlier," Sienna interrupted hastily, ending the call.

The voice in her ear vanished instantly.

But the emotional turbulence it had stirred up refused to settle.

Sitting across from her, Mindy was close enough to catch snippets of the conversation echoing from Sienna's phone.

She looked up, asking casually, "Is your boyfriend always this clingy?"

Sienna didn't know how to explain that he absolutely wasn't her boyfriend. She chose to stay quiet, letting the silence act as a default agreement.

Mindy added, "Your boyfriend has a really nice voice. It sounds kind of familiar too. Like... like our Mr. Vaughn!"
