"If we ever run out of anything at home, just let me know and I'll pick it up on my way back. You shouldn't go out so much."
"Okay."
"Yeah."
Jorrod stared at her quietly.
On the couch, the bright, cool light spilled down from the ceiling, casting the woman's face in shadow. He couldn't read her expression; all he could see was her radiant complexion and full, flushed lips.
They hadn't been in such close proximity for days.
Especially not like this, sitting together with less than an arm's length between them.
Even sharing the same pocket of air felt intimate.
Jorrod's eyelashes fluttered downward. His Adam's apple bobbed as his fingers twitched, reaching out to grab the hand of the woman sitting across from him.
Before he could even brush against her fingertips, Sienna pulled away without a second of hesitation.
Seeing how desperate she was to avoid him, his gaze turned somber.
His empty hand hovered in the air, curled slightly, before he slowly pulled it back.
Sienna let out a breath. "I don't want to sound completely heartless, but I meant what I said on the phone the other day. We aren't a good match, in any way, shape, or form. We aren't from the same world..."
Before she could finish, her wrist was suddenly seized.
His grip was tight, squeezing hard enough to hurt, and despite her struggles, she couldn't break free.
Jorrod's eyes grew red.
"What do you mean, the same world? What do you mean we aren't from the same world?"
"I'm sitting right in front of you, a perfectly normal man. The way we talk and interact is no different from how you treat anyone else. Why do you always use this excuse to push me away?"
"Maybe I'm sick right now, but I've been trying so hard..."
"Because it's not an excuse," Sienna snapped, wrenching her hand free.
"Jorrod, if you expect me to come home every day and behave, then you need to behave and keep yourself in check. We can co-exist peacefully, and even if we can't be friends, we can at least be decent roommates. The day you get your memory back, you'll understand that I'm doing this for both our sakes."
With that, Sienna stood up and walked away.
