Nita finally snapped, slamming her hand against the table.

"I thought Charles was dead! And given the years of history between you and Sienna, of course I hoped the two of you would find your way back to each other. Was I wrong?"

Little Ian startled slightly at the noise.

"Mother, don't startle my son."

Hayden personally warmed a bottle of formula for little Ian.

Nita stared in disbelief. Her aloof, aristocratic son, who had grown up having maids and staff hand him a simple glass of water, was doing this?

"This is Zoe's kid? Can't you just let her take care of him? Why did you even bring him here?"

Watching him made Nita furious.

Since when did her son do this kind of menial labor?

"I'm his father. I have a responsibility to raise my son."

Nita let out a bitter laugh, her eyes flashing with cold disdain. "Are you certain he's yours? Did you do a DNA test? If Zoe truly had nothing going on with Garrett, why would the Kendall family be so eager to take her in as a goddaughter? She and Sienna are quite the pair of best friends. Both of them are scheming manipulators. I underestimated them.

"You used to cater to Sienna's every whim, and now Zoe has you wrapped around her finger. I'd love to know what makes these two women so special that you and Charles are acting like absolute lunatics."

Nita couldn't stand seeing her son act like a whipped father. Her son was meant for greatness; he shouldn't be dealing with something as trivial as feeding a baby.

Hayden tested the temperature of the milk and gently brought the bottle to little Ian's lips. Watching the child obediently take the nipple and suckle contentedly, the icy edge in Hayden's eyes completely melted, replaced by a profound, pure tenderness. Only when he was certain the baby was settled did he look up at the furious Nita, his dark eyes as still as a deep pool.

"Why would I doubt it? He has my exact features. And Garrett doesn't have what it takes to steal my woman."
