I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 176

Gillian looked away, refusing to meet his gaze. She offered no response to his question.

"Curious why I helped you?"

York offered a faint, indifferent smile. "You're still Mrs. Foster. If you embarrass yourself, you embarrass me."

Gillian offered a mocking smile but remained silent.

He continued, "Even if your father is released early, the baby in your belly must be born."

"Don't celebrate just yet. Unless you please me, this divorce isn't happening. Even if Xavier Sterling takes the case himself, he wouldn't win."

Those words were ruthless and cold-blooded, completely washing away the momentary softness he had just shown.

Gillian looked at him, emotions swirling in her eyes. "Are you really that certain?"

What did the law mean to him?

The man's gaze darkened before he suddenly smirked. "Yes. Just as certain as you were when you forced me to marry you."

Gillian's heart gave a violent tremor. She lowered her head, suppressing the suffocating wave of despair in her chest. "That's ancient history. We've tortured each other for years. Why can't you just let it go?"

York sneered. "Am I the one who can't let it go?"

Gillian met his gaze. His dark eyes were like a stagnant pool, calm and unfathomable, flickering with a predatory, unpredictable gleam.

"When will it end? We have to settle this eventually."

"We were never meant to be. I forced this marriage. You've been chained to me for five years, and now I want to end it myself."

York scoffed. "A toxic bond is still a bond. You think you can just cut it?"

"When the baby is born, will you really be able to walk away from it? To completely disappear and never see me again?"
