At the prison gates, Gillian was ruthlessly barred from entering.
Gillian's eyes hardened. "My father has relapsed multiple times. As his daughter, shouldn't I be allowed to see him? If his condition is critical, I need to transfer him to an outside hospital."
"Ms. Jordan, we have our protocols. Please don't make this difficult for us."
She gritted her teeth, tempted to force her way in, but it was impossible.
Xavier Sterling, having rushed over after hearing the news, grabbed her hand. "Come with me."
Gillian frowned deeply as he pulled her away. She glanced back at the prison with every step, but ultimately followed him into his car.
Meanwhile.
York Foster had just stepped out of his car, only to witness Xavier leading Gillian away hand-in-hand.
The man's brow furrowed, and his footsteps halted. His dark gaze turned somber. Agitated, he pulled a cigarette from his pocket, placed it between his lips, and lit it.
Julian Thorne couldn't stay silent. "Why is she always getting so close to these men? Boss, aren't you going to intervene?"
"And do what? Drag her away by force?" York scoffed. "Then she'll fight me, get hysterical, and pass out again."
He had no desire to repeat that experience.
The moment Gillian had collapsed last time, his mind had gone completely blank.
He hated that feeling. He despised anything he couldn't control.
He was always logical and composed, always knowing exactly what needed to be done. He refused to be reduced to that state of helpless panic again.
York took a deep drag of his cigarette before opening the rear door and getting back in the car. His voice was freezing. "What's on the schedule for the next few days?"
Julian accurately listed all of his upcoming appointments.
"Cancel everything."
