**When Night Grows Softer Hope Returns To Lead Us by Asa Rowan Finn**
**Chapter 130**
“Let’s get out of here,” a voice rang out, breaking through the haze that enveloped Talya. There was a flurry of conversation around her, but it felt as if she were submerged in water, the voices echoing faintly, muffled and distant. The rush of adrenaline that had propelled her through the crash was beginning to wane, leaving her feeling heavy and disoriented. It was surreal, as if she were floating in a dream. The last coherent thought that flickered through her mind was a simple yet profound realization: she was fortunate to still be alive.
With a great effort, Talya attempted to pry her eyes open, but they felt as though they were weighed down by lead. It was as if someone had stitched them shut, and she found no resolve to fight against it. Instead, she surrendered to the darkness, allowing herself to drift back into the comforting embrace of sleep.
Voices swirled around her like a soft breeze, and she sensed movement, gentle yet persistent. Among the unfamiliar voices, one stood out, cutting through the fog: “I’m right here, Talya. Everything’s going to be okay. You’re safe.” Those words wrapped around her like a warm blanket, and she clung to them as she slipped back into the comforting blackness.
Again, Talya strained to open her eyes, but the effort was futile. Panic surged within her, a tidal wave of anxiety that threatened to pull her under. She wanted to reach up, to touch her eyes and understand what was happening, but her limbs felt unresponsive. “Easy there, Talya,” a calm, soothing voice reassured her, unfamiliar yet oddly comforting. “You can’t open your eyes because they’re covered to help them heal. I’m going to give you something to help you go back to sleep.” A sudden crash startled her, causing her heart to race.
“Talya?” the voice called out again, this time tinged with concern.
“Liam, let her rest. I’m giving her something to make her go back to sleep.” The voices faded into a distant murmur, and she felt herself drifting away once more to a place devoid of pain and fear.
When Talya finally managed to open her eyes, the world around her came into focus, but it was not the comforting sight she had hoped for. Pain shot through her body like electric currents, sharp and relentless. To distract herself, she took a moment to examine the ceiling above her, which was unfamiliar and sterile. She turned her head slightly, her movements slow and deliberate, and surveyed the room. It appeared to be a hospital, but one far more luxurious than any she had ever encountered.
Her gaze fell on the machine beside her bed, its beeping rhythm a strange companion to her discomfort. Following the tubes with her eyes, she traced their path to her own body, realizing with a sinking feeling that she was connected to an IV. Glancing down at her arm, she noticed a cast encasing it, bent at the elbow and resting awkwardly on her stomach. With a slight lift of her head, she inspected the rest of her body and found another cast on her leg. A wave of despair washed over her as she closed her eyes again, taking stock of the pain that radiated from every inch of her being. It felt as though there was no part of her that was free from agony.
