Chapter 147 Hit

Alpha Harold’s POV

I was still at the office when Phina called, the numbers on my screen blurring together after the third hour of staring at them.

“Harold, are you still working late?”

“Yeah. What is it?”

“Nothing serious. I stopped by a home store today and picked up a few things for our place.”

My jaw tightened before I could stop it. “We already have everything we need. No reason to buy

more.”

I didn’t say the rest of it out loud, that everything worth keeping from that house had walked out the door with Flourish the day she left, and nothing Phina bought was ever going to fill those particular gaps the way she seemed to think it would.

There was a pause on her end, long enough that I almost asked if she was still there.

“Harold, when Selene and I were out today, we ran into Flourish. She had a boyfriend with her.”

Something in my chest lurched, sharp and involuntary, my wolf coming instantly, uselessly alert. “Boyfriend?”

“Yeah.” A small, careless laugh that didn’t quite land right. “You didn’t know? He looked kind of old, actually.”

“I have to get back to work,” I said, too fast, and hung up before she could say anything else.

I sat there for a long moment, my pulse doing something ugly and unfamiliar, my claws pricking faintly against my palms before I forced my hand flat against the desk.

She doesn’t have a boyfriend. I don’t buy it. Not a single word of it.

I told myself I wasn’t going anywhere near Azurehill Road. I told myself that the whole drive over, right up until I was two streets from her building with absolutely no memory of deciding to turn the car in that direction at all.

My wolf had simply taken the wheel somewhere around the third red light, and by the time I noticed, arguing with him felt pointless.

I wasn’t going to knock. I wasn’t going to say anything. I just needed to see for myself, and then I’d turn around and go home and never think about any of it again.

That was the plan, right up until the black car came out of nowhere.

It happened too fast to process properly, a flash of dark paint filling my windshield, my whole body slamming sideways as I wrenched the wheel hard enough to save myself from a head-on hit, tires screaming as I clipped the guardrail instead.

The impact rattled through my teeth. For one disoriented second, all I could hear was my own pulse and the low, furious growl building somewhere in my chest before I’d even consciously decided to be angry.

Who the hell hits a car on a road this wide. Can’t they drive at all?

I shoved my door open, already halfway out of the seatbelt, more than ready to let something out on whoever had just done this to me and then my eyes caught the plate on the other car.

A88888.

Cousin Damian’s car.

The anger in my chest sputtered, confused, uncertain what to do with itself now that it had nowhere obvious to land.

His driver climbed out first, some older man I vaguely recognized, going pale the instant he got a proper look at my face. And then Damian himself stepped out behind him, unhurried, that same calmness he wore into every boardroom in the city, one eyebrow raised like he genuinely hadn’t expected to find me here.

“Harold? Wait – it’s you?”

The anger drained out of me almost entirely, replaced by something closer to embarrassment. “Cousin Damian. Your driver wasn’t paying attention? How do you even manage to hit a car on a road this wide?”

“Alpha Harold.” His driver stumbled over the apology, wringing his hands. “I really wasn’t paying attention.”

Damian shot the man a look sharp enough to make him flinch, then turned back to me, his expression softening into something that looked almost exactly like real worry. “Are you hurt anywhere?”

“I’m fine,” I said. “Just a dent in the car. No need to make a thing of it.”

“Why wouldn’t I make a thing of it?” He straightened, all responsible-elder authority, the kind of tone that made arguing feel pointless before I’d even started. “You young wolves never take care of yourselves. We’re getting you checked out. Patrick, call 911. Now.”

His driver’s face did something complicated before he pulled out his phone and dialed, muttering something under his breath I couldn’t quite catch.
