I Refuse To Be Your Luna (Flourish and Harold) novel Chapter 166

Chapter 166 Asked To Leave

Lady Flourish’s POV

“Step away from her,” Damian said again, low and final, and for one dangerous heartbeat I thought Harold might actually be foolish enough to test it.

“I can handle this,” I said, before either of them could turn it into something worse. I kept my eyes on Damian, willing him to remember exactly what we’d agreed on hours earlier at that cafe table. Trust me to walk into it with my eyes open.

Something flickered across his face, reluctant, restrained, every instinct in him clearly screaming to put himself between us anyway. He stayed where he was instead, arms crossed, close enough to intervene in a heartbeat if he needed to, far enough to let me finish this on my

own terms.

Harold’s attention hadn’t moved off me at all. “Even if you didn’t buy the trend,” he pressed, “you’re still the one who put that songwriter in front of a lawyer to go after Phina. Tell me you had zero personal motive in that.”

“No jealousy,” I said, flat and cold. “No hidden reason. I’m just tired of the two of you, Harold. Your wedding is next month. Do us both a favor and stop showing up in my life.”

He stiffened. “You knew already?”

“Phina told me herself.” My smile stayed thin, all surface. “Came to deliver the good news in person, actually. Congratulations on finally getting what you wanted. And congratulations to me.”

Congratulations on walking out of something I should never have agreed to in the first place.

“What’s that supposed to mean,” he demanded, something raw cracking through his

composure.

“Am I not allowed to congratulate you?” I raised a brow, deliberately light. “She’s the woman you’ve been hung up on for years. Now you can be together openly. I should be happy for you both.”

“Stop it.” His voice dropped. “Stop acting so generous and above all of this.”

“Who’s acting?” My laugh came out low, disdainful. “I forgot to mention, I have a boyfriend now too. So congratulations to you, and congratulations to me.”

His thoughts visibly stalled. Then something ugly surfaced behind his eyes, a photograph he’d clearly seen days ago flashing back into memory. He grabbed my wrist before I registered the

movement.

Finished

“Is your self-worth really this low? Some old man is what you settled for?”

Damian moved before I could react, a low growl tearing through the garage loud enough that I felt it in my chest rather than just heard it, but I was already faster.

My palm cracked across Harold’s cheek before either of them could do anything else.

The sound echoed off the concrete, sharp and final. My eyes stayed glacial. “Don’t project your filth onto me, Harold. I’ve told you again and again since we ended things, I don’t love you anymore. Who I’m with is none of your business.”

Damian closed the last of the distance in two strides, one arm settling firm and deliberate across my shoulders, positioning himself between us without a single word needing to pass between him and Harold to explain what it meant. His wolf’s presence pressed against the air like a wall, warning enough on its own.

Harold looked between us, something breaking visibly across his face, and then he turned and walked away without another word, hollow in a way that almost, almost stirred something like pity in me. Almost.

Damian didn’t say anything until the sound of Harold’s car faded entirely. “You didn’t need me.”

“I needed you exactly as much as you gave me,” I said, some of the tension finally draining out of my shoulders. “Not more.”

He studied me for a long moment, something unreadable behind his eyes, before he walked me back upstairs himself, silent the whole way, his hand never fully leaving my back.

My phone was glowing on the nightstand when I stepped inside. Ten missed calls. A string of messages beneath them.

‘The bed gets delivered next week.’

‘Want to test it together?’

‘Sleeping? Or mad at me? I didn’t mean anything strange, just that it’ll be ours.

‘You’re really angry!

‘Sorry. I apologize if I upset you.’

I read them twice, a dull, unfamiliar warmth settling somewhere beneath my ribs. Why did he sound like he was soothing a lover rather than a woman he’d made an arrangement with. I’d never once called myself his girlfriend, not out loud, not even privately. Two adults, taking what they needed from each other. Nothing more than that, I’d told myself, over and over, since the first night any of this started.
