Chapter 174 A Voice On The Line

Alpha Damian’s POV

Finished

I called her back before I’d even finished reading her message twice, my wolf already snarling somewhere beneath my ribs at the thought of her sitting alone in that study with a stranger’s voice in her ear.

She picked up on the first ring. “Damian.”

“Tell me exactly what he said.” I kept my voice level through sheer effort, pacing the length of the hotel room in the dark.

“He knew things he shouldn’t.” Her voice stayed steady, though I could hear the tightness underneath it, the particular control she used when she refused to let fear win the argument out loud. “My name. My number. That I’d been asking questions. He said it was time we spoke directly, and then he asked whether I knew you were currently abroad.” A pause. “Damian, he knew exactly where you were. Not the country. The city.”

My blood went cold. Only a handful of people had that information, my own security team, Fenwick, and whoever had access to my travel itinerary through the household.

“What else.”

“That was it. I hung up before he said anything more.” Her voice sharpened, some of her own anger finally breaking through the calm. “I’m not scared of a phone call, Damian. I’m angry that whoever this is thinks a phone call is enough to rattle me.”

My wolf, despite everything, felt a fierce, complicated pride at that even through the fear still coiling tight in my chest. “I need you somewhere secured tonight. Not the villa. Somewhere Fenwick’s team can lock down completely, with people you trust posted at every entrance.”

“Damian-”

“I’m not deciding this for you,” I said, cutting in before she could argue the point I already knew she’d raise. “I’m telling you what I know, the way I promised. Someone poisoned my own air filtration system for over a week. Someone knew you’d be sleeping there. And now someone’s calling you directly to confirm they know exactly where I am while I’m six hours from being able to do anything about it myself. That’s not paranoia. That’s pattern.”

Silence stretched, long enough that I heard her exhale slowly on the other end. “Fine. Where.”

“Fenwick will call you within the hour with details. Please, just answer when he does.”

“I will.” A beat, softer now. “Come home safely, Damian.”

Finished

Something in my chest cracked open at that, small and sudden and entirely unwelcome given the danger sitting between us right now. “I intend to.”

I ended the call and immediately dialed Fenwick, who picked up before the first ring finished. “Alpha Damian.”

“She’s agreed to relocate tonight. Get her somewhere secure, full detail, no exceptions.” I was already reaching for my jacket, the negotiations I’d spent three days building toward suddenly feeling like the smallest concern I’d carried all week. “What do you have on the staff financial trail?”

Fenwick’s hesitation lasted exactly one second too long. “I have a name, Alpha Damian. I wanted more confirmation before bringing it to you, but given tonight, I don’t think we have time to wait for that anymore.”

My wolf went very still. “Who.”

“Nerissa Lowe.”

The name landed like a physical blow, considerably worse than I expected given how little I’d let myself grow attached to any single member of that household staff over the years. She’d run that house since before I’d properly claimed my place in this family, had known June, had been the one steady presence in a home that otherwise felt hollow more often than not.

“You’re certain.”

“The payments started eleven months ago. Small amounts at first, growing steadily larger over the last quarter. Routed through the same intermediary structure we traced to Karl’s operation.” Fenwick’s voice tightened further. “Alpha Damian, there’s one more thing. I sent a team to the villa the moment I confirmed the name, to bring her in for questioning before she had any warning.”

“And?”

“She’s gone.

Left within the last two hours, according to the household logs. No forwarding information. No trace on any vehicle registered to her.”

I stood in the middle of that hotel room, my wolf pacing hard and furious, every soft, careless assumption I’d made about the safety of my own home burning away entirely.

Nerissa had access to everything, every room, every schedule, every private detail of a life I’d foolishly assumed no one could touch without my noticing.

Including, I realized with a fresh, colder wave of dread, every detail about exactly when and where Flourish had been staying these past two weeks.

“Fenwick.” My voice dropped low, dangerous, every ounce of the careful restraint I usually
