I stared at the final message on my phone while Damian remained beside me, his hand still wrapped firmly around mine, and my father’s silence became more disturbing than the words on the screen.
My wolf paced beneath my skin, demanding I identify the threat immediately, but all I had were fragments: my mother’s diary, missing pages, the poisoned flower, Nerissa’s death, the Stonehedge vehicle, and now a warning that the woman responsible was already inside my family.
“Who sent that?” Damian asked quietly.
“I don’t know.”
He glanced at the screen again, then lifted his gaze toward Garret. “How much does he know about this?”
Garret’s jaw tightened. “Enough.”
“That wasn’t the question.”
My wolf reacted to the subtle challenge threaded through his voice, and my pulse quickened as the two Alphas faced each other across the room. Damian didn’t raise his voice, but his scent changed, sharpening into something considerably more dominant, and even my father seemed to recognize he wouldn’t be intimidated into backing down.
“Damian,” I said softly.
His gaze returned to me instantly.
“I’m fine.”
His fingers tightened around mine. “I know you’re trying to be strong.”
“I don’t have a choice.”
“You always have a choice.”
The tenderness in his voice loosened something inside me, and for a moment I let myself lean into him, his scent settling my wolf enough to think clearly again. Then my father’s voice broke the silence.
“The message is meant to frighten you.”

I looked at him. “Is it working?”
“Yes.”
“Then tell me who she is.”

Garret looked away. “Flourish, some things can’t be explained in a single conversation.”

My patience finally broke. “Then start talking.” My claws slipped free before I’d fully decided to let them. “You knew about my mother’s family. You knew about the diary. You knew those pages were missing. And now someone is using her death to threaten me.”
His face tightened. “You don’t understand the danger.”
“I understand enough to know that keeping me ignorant hasn’t protected me from a single thing tonight.”
Damian stepped closer. “She’s right.”
Garret’s eyes narrowed. “This is a family matter.”
“Someone poisoned my wife.”
The word landed heavily in the room, and my heart skipped at the particular weight he gave it, my wolf reacting immediately to the possessive claim underneath it. Damian glanced down at me for a second, his expression softening before he turned back to my father.
“So it became my matter the moment someone targeted her.”
Garret said nothing.
I looked toward the open balcony doors, still shifting faintly in the night air. “Someone was here.”
“I know,” Damian said.
“Can you still smell her?”
“Faintly.”
I closed my eyes and let my wolf stretch toward it, separating the layers of scent through the house one at a time.
Garret, Lydia, Mira, Damian, old furniture, rain drifting in from the balcony, and beneath all of it, the same bitter trace I’d caught once before.

Damian’s expression shifted instantly. “Are you certain?”
“Yes.” My wolf had never forgotten that scent, not once since the night it first crossed my pillow. “It was right there, close enough to touch.”
Garret stepped toward us. “Then she was watching you.”
“Who?”
He stopped, and I stared at him, refusing to let the silence swallow the question. “Who was watching me?”
His eyes dropped to the diary still lying on the floor between us. “Your mother’s old friend.”
“Who?”
“Her name was Lydia.”
The name struck something familiar in me, not because I’d known her, but because I’d heard it somewhere long ago, buried in childhood.
My wolf reacted to it before I could consciously place where.
“Lydia’s sister?”
Garret nodded, and my stomach dropped straight through the floor.
“She’s dead,” I said.
“No.” His answer came quiet, almost reluctant. “She’s alive.”
“Then why have I never once seen her?”
“Because she left years ago.”
“Where?”
“I don’t know.”
Damian’s voice hardened beside me. “You just said she was alive.”
“I received information that she returned recently,” Garret said, meeting his gaze without flinching.
My heart began pounding. “From where?”

“Voss territory.”
The room went completely silent. My mother. Her family. The missing pages. The woman who had supposedly killed her.
Every piece was beginning to connect, though the shape of the whole picture still refused to settle into anything I could fully grasp.
My phone vibrated again. Rhys this time.
“Boss, we have a problem at F-Tech.”
I answered immediately. “What happened?”
His voice came through strained. “The board received a new complaint.”
“From Ragnar?”
“No.”
My stomach tightened. “Who?”
“Someone claiming to be Elara Voss’s legal representative.”
I froze. “That’s impossible.”
“I know.”
“Read me the name.”
A pause stretched long enough that I could hear my own pulse in my ears.
