I stared at the message on my phone until the words blurred, my fingers tightening around the device as my wolf reacted to the unknown scent attached to the number.
Your mother knew I would come for you, the first message said, and the second one appeared beneath it before I could even breathe properly.
And now I have.
Damian noticed the change in my expression immediately and stepped closer. “What happened?”
I handed him the phone without answering, because my throat had tightened and I knew that if I spoke too quickly, the fear inside me would turn into anger. His eyes moved across the screen, and the muscles in his jaw tightened as his wolf pushed against his skin.
“Who sent this?”
“I don’t know.”
He looked at Rhys. “Can you trace the number?”
Rhys was already working on his phone. “I’m trying.”
I could still hear the First Wolf’s voice in my mind, even though the ancient creature had disappeared beneath the collapsing archive.
Protect the blood, it had told me, and I suddenly wondered whether the warning had been about my bloodline or about the people connected to it.
Damian touched my shoulder. “Stay with me.”
I looked into his eyes. “I’m here.”
His thumb brushed gently across my cheek, but the tenderness in his expression did not hide the concern underneath it.
My wolf leaned toward him through our bond, drawing strength from his presence, while another part of me wanted to run back into the ruined archive and demand answers from everyone who had lied to me.
Rhys suddenly looked up. “I have something.”

Damian turned. “What?”
M
“The number isn’t registered normally,” Rhys said, frowning at his screen. “It’s being routed through several private networks, but I found the first point it connected to.”
My stomach tightened. “Where?”
“Stonehedge.”
Silence settled around us.
Damian’s eyes darkened. “That’s impossible.”
“No,” Rhys said quietly. “It’s possible.” He turned the phone toward us. “The signal originated from an executive communication server.”
My wolf growled low in my chest. Someone inside Stonehedge had access to the system, and Ragnar immediately came to mind, though I pushed the thought away because there were still too many unanswered questions surrounding him.
The vehicle, Nerissa, the fleet, the poison, and now this message all seemed connected somehow, but I could not yet see the shape of it.
Then Damian’s phone rang, and he answered. “Talk.”
A man’s voice came through the speaker. “Alpha, we’ve secured the perimeter.”
Damian’s expression changed. “Who gave you orders?”
The man hesitated. “Mr. Garret.”
My breath caught in my chest.
Damian looked at me. “Where is he?”
“At Steele Residence.”
I turned toward the waiting vehicles at once. “I’m going there.”
Damian caught my wrist. “Not alone,”
“I wasn’t planning to.”
His hand stayed around mine. “You don’t know what Garret is hiding.”
“I know,” I said, my voice shaking. “But he’s still
my
father.”

We got into the car with Rhys following behind us, and I spent the entire drive staring at my mother’s diary in my lap.
Her handwriting had become familiar during the hours I spent reading it, but now every line felt different because I knew she had been preparing for something far worse than a broken marriage.
When we arrived at the Steele Residence, the security team surrounded the entrance immediately. Garret was already waiting in the main hall, and his face looked older than it had that morning.
“You came.”
I stepped forward. “You knew someone would come for me.”
His eyes shifted toward Damian. “I knew someone would eventually find you.”
“Who?”
He said nothing, and my wolf pushed forward inside me. “Tell me.”
Garret’s jaw tightened. “Not here.”
“Then where?”
He looked toward the stairs. “Your mother’s old study.”
My heart began pounding. “Why?”
“Because there is something you were never supposed to find.”
Damian moved beside me. “Then we’re all going.”
Garret gave him a tired look. “No.” His eyes returned to me. “Only Flourish.”
I shook my head. “Whatever you’re hiding, Damian stays.”
Garret looked at him for several seconds before finally nodding. “Fine.”
We followed him upstairs, and the old study smelled faintly of dust and my mother’s perfume. My wolf reacted so strongly that I had to grip the doorframe to steady myself.
Garret walked toward the bookshelf and removed a small wooden box from behind several old law books.

He placed it on the desk. “Your mother left this for you.”
My hands trembled. “Why didn’t you give it to me before?”
“Because I promised her I wouldn’t.”
“She is dead.”
His face tightened. “I know.”
I opened the box. Inside was a small crystal drive and an old photograph of my mother holding me as a baby. There was writing on the back.
For my daughter, when she is finally strong enough to know the truth.
