I participated occasionally, but my thoughts kept drifting elsewhere.

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Flourish. Her angry expression, disappointment, and that stubborn refusal to listen to reason.
I couldn’t understand it.
Yes, I had made mistakes. Yes, I should have handled the Luna Rite better. But was everything truly unforgivable? Had all the years we spent together become meaningless overnight?
The more I thought about it, the more frustrated I became. So I drank.
And drank.
And drank.
Eventually the room began spinning, and the voices around me faded into distant echoes.
Someone was saying my name, another person was trying to take a bottle away from me. I vaguely remember shoving their hand aside.
After that, everything became darkness.
The first thing I noticed upon waking was the scent.
Lavender, wildflowers, and honey. My eyes slowly opened, and the first thing I noticed was that the ceiling above me was unfamiliar.
Confusion immediately settled over me.
This wasn’t my room. I sat up too quickly and instantly regretted it as pain exploded through my skull.
A soft gasp sounded nearby. “Harold?”
I turned my head to see Phina standing beside the bed holding a tray. She wore a simple cream–colored dress, and her expression immediately brightened when she realized I was awake.
“What happened?” I asked roughly.
She hurried closer. “You drank too much.”
I rubbed my temples. “No, I mean how did I get here?”

A faint blush appeared on her cheeks. “One of your friends called me.”
“My friends?”

She nodded. “He said you weren’t answering anyone properly and he couldn’t think of anyone else close enough to help.”
I frowned.
That sounded like Trevor, the idiot. Why didn’t he just call Flourish? Or did he think she wouldn’t answer?
I looked around the room. The house was far smaller than any residence owned by an Alpha, and everything about it reflected Phina’s modest lifestyle.
“Why am I here?”
Her expression immediately turned apologetic. “When I asked where you wanted to go, you didn’t answer me.”
I stared, and she lowered her gaze. “You wouldn’t tell me anything, and you could barely stand. I didn’t know what else to do, so I brought you here.”
I looked down at myself. At least my clothes were still on.
A thought immediately occurred to me. “Where did you sleep?”
Phina blinked. “Here.”
I frowned. “Here?”
She looked genuinely confused by the question. “There is only one bedroom, Harold. I didn’t think it would matter.”
My headache somehow got worse. Before I could respond, she quickly held out a cup.
“I made tea.”
The warm scent drifted toward me.
“It’s a hangover remedy my grandmother taught me.”
I accepted it. “Thank you.”
A relieved smile appeared on her face. “You don’t need to thank me.”
I took a sip, and surprisingly, it wasn’t terrible.

As the warmth settled into my chest, my thoughts inevitably returned to Flourish agai.No matter how much I tried distracting myself, everything somehow circled back to her.
It was exhausting.
“I should leave,” I finally said.
Phina’s expression fell slightly. “Oh.”
“I have some work to do, but I’ll get through to you as soon as I can.”
She immediately forced a smile. “Of course.”
I stood and adjusted my shirt. As I glanced around the house one final time, I noticed how cramped everything felt.
The place wasn’t terrible, it simply wasn’t suitable. Especially not for someone connected to Stonehedge’s former Beta family.
“I’ll arrange something better for you.”
Phina froze. “What?”
“A larger residence.”
Her eyes widened. “Harold, that’s unnecessary.”
“It isn’t.”
The gratitude on her face was immediate. Before I could step away, she rose onto her toes and pressed a quick kiss against my cheek.
“Thank you.”
I stiffened briefly before nodding, then I left. The cool morning air helped clear my head during the drive back to my villa. By the time I arrived, my thoughts were focused again.
Flourish had withdrawn her company from the Virel Group. She had moved out, and had removed every trace of herself from my home. She was systematically dismantling six years of history.
Well.
If she thought I was going to sit back and watch, she clearly didn’t know me as well as she believed.
