Chapter 319 The Name Garret Erased
Lady Flourish POV
The last Hollow Ridge wolf shifted back first. He was breathing hard, his shirt torn across one shoulder, and blood ran down the side of his neck from an old wound that had reopened during the shift.
I looked at him, then at the woman standing beside the ruined building.
My sister.
The thought still felt strange.
“Before we leave,” I said, “you need to tell me your name yourself to be sure you haven’t been making a mistake.”
She looked at me for a few seconds.
“My real name?”
“Yes.”
She glanced toward the forest where the others were gathering.
“My name is Amara.”
The name felt different from everything I had learned about her.
Amara.
I repeated it quietly, trying to connect it to the face I had spent days seeing in old photographs and security images.
She shook her head.
“Don’t look at me like that.”
“Like what?”
“Like you’re trying to decide whether I belong in your life.”
I frowned.
“I don’t know what I’m supposed to think.”
“That makes two of us.”
Damian came to stand beside me. His wolf was still close to the surface after the attack, and his eyes remained partly shifted.
Amara noticed him.
“I don’t want him speaking for you.”
“He doesn’t.”
“Good.”
Damian said nothing.
I looked at Amara again.
“Who gave you that name?”
“Our mother.”
My throat tightened.
“Elara?”
She nodded.
I had heard my mother’s name from her so many times since we met that it was becoming difficult to separate the woman I remembered from the mother she had known.
“Did Garret ever call you Amara?”
Her expression hardened.
“Once.”
“Once?”
“When I was very young.”
“What happened?”
“He stopped using it.”
I waited.
Amara folded her arms.
“After they decided I had to disappear, Father ordered everyone around him to stop using my name. He said my name could not appear in any document, medical file, transport record, school record, pack registry, or family archive.”
My stomach turned.
“Why?”
“Because a name creates a trail.”
She looked directly at me
“And he wanted mine gone.”
I could not speak.
Rhys approached us, phone in hand.
“Flourish, we need to move. We have another team approaching from the east.”
Damian looked at him.
“How far?”
“Five minutes, maybe less.”
“Get everyone into the vehicles.”
Rhys nodded and moved away.
I stayed where I was.
“Did he erase me too?” Amara asked.
I looked at her.
“No.”
“Of course not.”
There was no anger in her voice. That made it worse.
“He kept you,” she said. “He gave you the family name. He let everyone know you existed.”
“I didn’t know about you.”
“I know.”
“You think I should have known?”
“No.”
Her answer came quickly.
“That’s the part I hate.”
I stared at her.
“You didn’t choose this.”
“Neither did you.”
“I know.”
“Then stop looking at me like you owe me something.”
I looked away.
My wolf had been quiet since Amara gave me her name.
Now she moved closer.
“She’s ours.”
“He didn’t tell me you were protected too.”
“No. I was controlled.”
