Alpha Damian’s POV
I watched as Flourish stormed out of the Stonehedge villa, her hips swaying softly as she strutted into her car. Her eyes locked onto mine before the driver pulled away, that same defiant expression on her face.
“What you remember is irrelevant, Damian.”
I chuckled despite myself. The way she said my name was alluring in ways it wasn’t supposed to be, and if not that I knew how stubborn she could get, I would have insisted.
My wolf purred softly at the thought of her.
My Little Flower.
Even after seven and a half years, she was still so charming. I wonder if
“Alpha Damian?” A soft voice called behind me.
I turned to find a frail looking she–wolf, all soft features and an aura that made her look… precious.
But my wolf rejected her immediately, already restless in my head and urging me to get away from her. I snarled, my lips curled up in disgust.
“What?”
She flinched at my response, bit her lip, and proceeded to try again. “I just…I was hoping you would remember me. I didn’t get to formally say hi after you returned,” she said softly.
I kept my gaze on her, my nostrils flaring as Harold’s scent all over her got to me.
“And what on this moon goddess’s earth, would make you think I would want to say ‘hi‘ to you either way?” I retorted, allowing my alpha waves flare at her.
She lowered her head in submission by instinct, her hands trembling. “I…I thought you would remember-”
“Remember what? That you’re Rowan’s mate? What exactly is so special about that? Did you contribute to how much he served my brother?” My anger was starting to rise.
I tilted her chin upward, forcing her gaze to meet mine. “Rowan died five years ago. You didn’t die within a year, so your bond with him severed successfully and you should be fine. Moon sickness is tough, but even the most foolish wolf can sense that it is no longer in your system.”
She gasped, her eyes widening as she stumbled back. “What did you- How did you…”
“How did I what? Uncover your stupid lie?” I dropped my gaze to the band across her ankles. A bloodroot band, only visible to people who have some history with the plant. It masks reality, and creates an illusion for everyone else to see.
They say it chooses you, not the other way around.
It used to be an ancient technique used by warriors back when the Alphas could never come to an agreement on territory. But all that ended with Alpha Magnus‘ reign, and no one has been able to use it since then.
Except her.
I increased the dominance of my Alpha waves, crushing her wolf until she whimpered softly. “I don’t know what you plan to achieve with this, but I will find out, Phina. Your fragile act is silly and pathetic.”
I walked out, leaving her trembling before withdrawing my waves.
When I got to the banquet room, Harold had finally returned, and was getting a very serious glare stance from Grandpa.
I smirked a bit and walked to my seat.
“Finally, Harold. Mind telling us why you left your family and your mate unattended for almost two hours?” I asked, amusement in my tone.
