I stopped and turned back. Under the watchful eyes of everyone in the assembly, I delivered a heavy, stinging slap to his face.
I looked at him calmly, my gaze filled with a faint sense of loathing.
“You couldn’t let go of the Blood Moon Pack’s wealth and status, so don’t shift the blame onto the elders. This was your choice.”
‘Don’t forget-you were the one who signed those alliance terms with your own hand!”
The room went deathly silent. Alpha Julian stood frozen, looking as if he had been struck by lightning.
I had just exposed his filthiest, most secret thought.
He wanted the absolute power of the Blood Moon Pack, and he wanted to keep my heart. In the end, he ended up with nothing. It was pathetic and laughable.
Click-clack!
The silence was shattered by the frantic sound of cameras. The atmosphere in the room ignited instantly as several pack media outlets swarmed forward, hurling questions at Julian.
“Alpha Vance, is what this female said true?”
“What kind of despicable deal did you actually make with the elder council?”
“Was this press conference just another act you staged to maintain your dominance or manipulate territory resources?”
Julian was completely surrounded.
I didn’t look back. I walked straight out of the building.
Overnight, Julian and Serena became the targets of public outrage across the territories.
The once-mighty Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack was now a sinner who had made a fool of his own people. Facing a massive rebellion from the pack members and the exposure of corruption, Julian was officially stripped of his Alpha title, exiled from the pack, and ended up on the streets. Serena, desperate to avoid the fallout, fled the territory entirely.
My name was cleared. The public learned that his true mate had endured five years of humiliation and abuse in the Pack Dungeon. The masses rallied behind me, supporting my Rejection and demanding I get everything I deserved.
Inside a quiet cafe in the neutral zone, Julian looked haggard, his face covered in dark stubble.
He no longer had the refined, commanding air of his former self. He sat there, clutching the true mating certificate in his hand, his eyes downcast as he waited for me.
A few minutes later, Arthur Sterling and I walked through the door side-by-side.
The sight seemed to stab at Julian’s eyes. His gaze was filled with raw regret.
I got straight to the point. “Julian, let’s finalize the Rejection. Did you bring the mating certificate to be voided?”
He placed the certificate on the table, his eyes darkening with a desperate plea.
“Chloe, can you forgive me? You’re all I have left.”
My eyes narrowed as a flicker of mockery crossed my face. I spoke coldly.
“Julian, when I first followed you back to the Blood Moon territory, you were all I had, too. But how did you treat me?”
The male across from me stiffened. He couldn’t find a single word to say.
He was utterly defeated, his eyes brimming with tears. A heavy sense of desolation spread from his feet through his entire body.
After a long time, Julian whispered, ‘I’m sorry.”
1 finally looked up, staring at him calmly.
I gave a small, detached smile. Then let’s leave it at that, Julian. We’re finished.”
I reached out to take the mating certificate to tear it.

But he gripped the document tightly, refusing to let go. I frowned, unable to pull it from his hand
After a moment, I let out a sigh.
“Julian, how much longer are you going to cause a scene?”
Those were the exact words he had said to me countless times before. He remembered.

The first time I had cried to him, saying I was so tired of hiding, he still felt heartache. He would hold me and coax me gently.
The second time I was mistaken for a rank-climber and had my photos exposed, enduring the insults of the purebloods, I had sobbed into my phone. He had been sad, but a hint of impatience had already begun to grow.
He had been exhausted from dealing with the elders all day, only to come back to the estate and have to constantly comfort me.
He felt burdened.
Until eventually, every time he heard I was thrown into the Pack Dungeon or had been beaten, all that remained in his eyes was irritation. He even started to hide from me, just so he could have some peace.
He had slowly forgotten that the female he once held in the palm of his hand was being constantly discarded, forgotten, and hurt by him, until she was so broken she lost all her strength.
Julian had lost me.
And now, I was awake. I no longer sought his protection or his favoritism.
I looked at him with cold eyes and told him, “Stop it.”
Julian suddenly realized that only when the knife is driven into your own skin can you truly empathize with another’s pain. Only then do you know how much they hurt.
An invisible force seemed to squeeze his heart, causing an agonizing, unbearable pain.
Clutching the mating certificate, Julian’s tears finally began to fall.
‘No, Chloe. Please, no.”
Arthur watched Julian’s display and let out a scoff.
“Julian Vance, even if you want to be with Chloe, you’ve been exiled from your own pack. What do you have left? Can a male with absolutely nothing give someone happiness?”
“Let go. Chloe doesn’t need you anymore.”
Julian slowly raised his head, looking helpless and desperate. “I can do it. I can give Chloe happiness. I’ll prove it to you.”
He shoved the mating certificate into his pocket and made a vow.
‘Chloe, wait for me. I’ll prove it to you. I can give you happiness. I know I can.”
Julian didn’t agree to the Rejection. Instead, he vanished for a long time.
One year later, I had successfully been promoted to executive assistant at Arthur’s Royal Enterprise.
I was meticulous and knew my boundaries, making me quite popular at the office. Because of what had happened with the Blood Moon Pack, many of my colleagues were sympathetic and took good care of me.
Then, an independent faction-a newly established enterprise-suddenly announced it was going public and invited several high-society figures from various packs to a celebration banquet.
Arthur was on the guest list.
Inside his top-floor office, he took a sip of the coffee I had brewed, his gaze appreciative.
‘Chloe, your work is getting better and better. This coffee is even better than before.”
Holding a stack of files, I gave him a bright, confident smile.
“Of course. I’ve been putting in a lot of work behind the scenes. Lately, I’ve even picked up some management and reporting skills. I hope I can put them to use soon.”

Seeing me grow little by little brought a sense of relief to Arthur.

When he first found me and learned about my situation, he had promised to help. He had wanted to drop me into a high-level executive position at the Royal Enterprise immediately.
But I had refused.
I wanted to take it one step at a time. Dropping into a senior role wouldn’t just fail to win over the staff; it would invite gossip.
Even though Julian and I had gone to human schools on scholarships back when we were outcasts, I hadn’t been in the professional world for years. I knew I was a rookie.
So, I decided to start from the bottom.
As it turned out, Arthur hadn’t been wrong about me. I was still the same resilient dandelion from his memories-fragile and small, but no matter where the wind blew me, I would take root and grow strong.
The storms couldn’t break me.
Even if I was soaked and knocked down for a moment, I could stand right back up.
“Chloe, you’ve really grown up. It makes me happy to see that you’ve kept your true self after all the suffering you endured while I was away!
“It’s only because you told me back at the orphanage that we have to be strong. Since we have no pack to rely on, we have to rely on ourselves.”
At that, Arthur gave a knowing smile.
Back at St. Jude’s Orphanage, he was a bit older and was the first to understand how the world worked for unclaimed children.
Back then, I was the one who cried the most.
When the Matron told me I didn’t have a mother or father, I had wailed the loudest.
At first, Arthur hated me. He thought I was the most delicate, annoying kid at the orphanage.
I was always throwing myself into the Matron’s arms to act spoiled and get treats.
While all the other kids got the same snacks and gifts, I was the only one who could always sweet-talk the older girls into giving me extra.
Arthur looked down on that behavior.
