Chapter 14

Looking at the sensationalized media reports about the upcoming assembly, Julian’s face was so dark it could drip ink.

But on second thought, the bigger the scene, the better.

The more pack members who paid attention, the more powerful his counterattack would be. Those old bastards wouldn’t have any room to

maneuver

He was done being held hostage and threatened.

It was time to strike.

I saw the reports too.

I silently organized my files, my fingertips lingering on the headlines for a moment before I swiped them away.

Just then, a colleague called out to me, telling me to go to the top-floor office.

I pushed the door open. Arthur was leaning back in his chair, an unlit cigarette between his fingers. His hands were elegant, his knuckles well-defined, and the metallic luster of his watch was cold and luxurious.

A breeze caught the curtains and brushed against his suit. He had his eyes closed for a short nap, looking like a meticulously carved piece of ar He was breathtaking.

Back at the orphanage in the neutral zone, Artie had always been the most outstanding child.

Now that he was grown into the Lycan King, his striking features and royal aura were impossible to look away from.

I felt my breathing hitch and let out a soft cough.

Arthur’s long, thick lashes fluttered as he slowly opened his eyes.

When he saw me, a faint, ghost of a smile touched his lips.

“Chloe, everything is ready. Don’t worry.”

I thanked him sincerely.

“Artie, if it weren’t for you pulling your royal weight, I might have spent my whole life branded with those vile reputations. Thank you.”

Arthur set the cigarette down and slowly walked over to me, tucking a stray lock of hair behind my ear.

“Chloe, we grew up together. We’re family. If you keep thanking me, I’ll start to think you’re treating me like a stranger.”

I looked at him in a panic, whispering a protest.

‘No, I’m just… I really just want to thank you.”

Arthur smiled warmly, shifting back to his usual casual, effortless stance. “If you really want to thank me, why don’t you come back to the orphanage with me sometime? I’ve missed them all these years.”

I nodded firmly.

Then, Arthur handed me an elite invitation.

“This is for Julian Vance and Serena Thorne’s press conference. Go and witness your rebirth. Take back your identity.

I took it, a sense of melancholy washing over me.

Life was unpredictable, but shouldn’t everyone hold their destiny in their own hands?

I refused to live the rest of my life being mocked and slandered.

At Julian’s exclusive press conference.

He sat in front of the cameras.

I could see the faint traces of exhaustion and weariness in his eyes.

But I didn’t care about any of that.

I sat quietly in the audience, waiting for the moment Julian announced the date of Luna Naming Ceremony

The journalist asked a few standard questions about territory management and made a few small jokes about him and Serena

Throughout it all, Julian seemed disinterested, though he replied politely enough.

Finally, the journalist looked at Serena with a raised eyebrow.

“Word is, the Luna Naming Ceremony is coming up soon. After years of such a sweet romance, you’re finally tying the knot.”

*Alpha, have you set a date? Will we be lucky enough to witness the union of two great bloodlines?”

I’m truly happy for you both.”

The journalist beamed.

I stood up from my seat in the audience.

At the same time, Julian’s deep, cold voice rang through the microphone.

Then you’re happy way too early.”

The room went deathly silent.

Even I hadn’t expected Julian to turn cold so suddenly.

His gaze swept across the room. Sitting in the front row were several of the founding elders of the Blood Moon Pack, the purebloods who held massive power.

Next to them were members of the Thorne Family.

This broadcast was being watched by everyone in the territory.

Julian had intentionally leaked word that he was going to announce his Luna, so all the elders were in attendance.

Now, he had brought everything to a grinding, awkward halt.

Thinking Julian had simply been too excited and misspoke, the journalist quickly tried to smooth things over.

“The ceremony is near, and the Alpha is clearly so excited he’s stumbling over his words. It’s obvious how much he dotes on his Future Luna.

Unexpectedly, Julian closed his eyes for a moment before slowly standing up from his chair. In the next second, he slammed his script onto the

floor.

“Dote on her? What a joke. I have no feelings for her whatsoever. It was all an act.”

The stage fell into a stunned silence. Serena, sitting in her chair, turned deathly pale.

After a long moment, she managed an awkward smile and reached out to grab Julian’s sleeve.

“Julian, what are you saying? Sit down, quickly! The elders of both packs are watching!” she hissed.

Without a shred of mercy, Julian violently shook her off.

The force sent Serena stumbling back, landing clumsily in her chair.

“Stop acting. I’m sick of it. Get away from me.”

Julian Vance, what do you think you’re doing?”

A shout came from the audience. One of the pureblood elders was glaring at him, furious that he would embarrass the Thornes in front of

everyone.

Julian slowly turned his head. Beta Carter ran up and handed him a stack of printed documents.

Julian gripped the papers, his voice booming and firm.

“What am I doing? I’m here to expose your ugly faces and your disgusting corruption.”

In the next second, Julian threw the papers into the air. They fluttered like snow, scattering across the floor.

The entire studio was covered in the documents he had released.

One of them drifted down and landed in my hand.

It was a detailed record of the pack elders’ numerous illegal territorial grabs, as well as the terms of an agreement to use the mating with the Thorne Family as a gimmick to manipulate pack resources and extort the lower districts.

From the day he returned, Julian had been like a puppet for the elders, allowed to be manipulated and forced to sacrifice his mate and his life for the sake of their profit.

All his affection and care for Serena had been a lie.

“What? The perfect couple is a total sham?”

“The ‘doting Alpha’ persona was just a script? It was all a positive image the elders created for him?”

“This is outrageous! Do they think we’re idiots? They’re entertaining the pack just to steal our resources!”

Condemnation and insults filled the room.

The faces of the elders turned green. They scrambled to shut down the broadcast, but there was no way the media outlets were going to let such a massive story go. Cameras pushed forward, and flashes went off like lightning.

Julian walked down from the stage at a measured pace. He held the microphone and spoke one word at a time.

“My true, fated mate is actually the Omega your elders intentionally pushed into the line of fire-Chloe Bennett.”

His gaze locked onto my face, filled with raw heartache.

He was aching for the injustice I had suffered for the sake of our bond, and aching for his own incompetence-that he couldn’t even protect the person he loved most.

Looking at Julian’s guilt-ridden expression, I didn’t feel even a flicker of hesitation.

He had known. He had known about every bit of humiliation I had endured.

And yet he had chosen to ignore it until I wanted to leave. Only then did he finally regret it and try to make me stay.

I only found it ironic.

Why is it that people only know how to cherish something once they’ve lost it?

Amidst the shock of the crowd, the mighty Alpha walked up to me and dropped to one knee, his voice dripping with emotion.

‘Chloe, I was wrong. I thought that by compromising and enduring, I could secure the Alpha title and give us a better life. I went against my own heart over and over again. But it wasn’t until you left, after you were hurt so badly, that I realized how wrong I was. If you aren’t here, what is the point of this territory?”

“Chloe, when we marked each other, we had nothing. No ceremony, not even a real title. Can you give me one more chance? I promise to treasure you for the rest of my life.”
