Chapter 146

Claim 10 Cams By Chark in

I leaned against Calista’s shoulder.

She patted my head.”Silly girl, Grandma wants to protect you always. But life and death… there’s always an end. You know, I don’t know how long I can stay in this world… Doctor told me that my infection was very serious and even my wolf couldn’t do anything about it

She knew her own limitations:

“Grandma!” My voice was choked with tears.

Calista squeezed my hand. “Seren, Grandma’s alive now, I can protect you. But if I’m gone… there’ll be no one, and I won’t rest in peace.”

Seeing her concern, I nodded.”I’ll listen to you, Grandma. I will consider having a mate.”

Lucian returned to Ayla’s basement. The bodyguards, following Calista’s orders, didn’t stop him. He opened the door.

His pupils dilated at the sight inside.

Ayla, terrified of snakes, lay on the ground, surrounded by more than ten snakes.

Her eyes were wide with terror. She gasped, “Lucian…”

Fenris immediately signaled the bodyguards to remove the snakes. Lucian lifted Ayla, kicking two bodyguards aside in his haste to get her out He rushed her to the Pack’s infirmary.

Ayla was physically unharmed, but her mental state was fragile.

Leaning weakly against Lucian, she said, “Lucian, I’m fine. I want to see Willow. She needs me; I’m afraid she’ll cry.”

He carried her to Willow’s room.

Willow threw herself into Ayla’s arms.

Ayla comforted her. Willow soon fell asleep, nestled against Ayla.

Ayla kissed her forehead, tucking her in. She then collapsed into Lucian’s arms, trembling.

“Lucian, thank you for saving me. I don’t know what would have happened otherwise. I was so scared. Why did Seren do this? She could have ignored me, but she used snakes…. my biggest fear…”

Each word fueled Lucian’s rage. She swore revenge. As she sobbed, she sensed a change in Lucian.

‘My wolf snarled, sensing his shifting emotions, the lessening of his concern.”

She smiled proudly.

At Mooncrest Manor, I didn’t sleep in Lucian’s yard but in my own room in Calista’s. I was afraid. Calista had the servants prepare calming soup and incense. But the basement images haunted me. I couldn’t sleep.

I took sleeping pills, but the images persisted. I finally fell into a troubled sleep.

I was abruptly awakened by Lucian’s hand roughly pulling me from my bed. His voice was chilling. “Seren, how can you sleep so soundly

I was groggy, disoriented from the sleeping pills. He turned on the light, grabbing my chin. Pain shot through me, jolting me awake. His fury was evident. My expression hardened. I pulled his hand away, my voice cold.”Let go! Lucian, what are you doing?”
