Chapter 148

I hurried out, seeing a black Maybach waiting. Calista had arranged it.

I quickly got in, noticing someone in the backseat.

The dimly lit space revealed Lucian, leaning back, half his face in shadow.

He held an unlit cigarette, its tip crushed.

His gaze was intense, dangerous.

My face turned cold. I hesitated, then tried to get out.

I didn’t want to share a car with him.

My reaction was quick, but not quick enough. He tossed the cigarette, his hand grabbing my wrist, pulling me back in. The door slammed shu

“Drive!”

The driver, naturally, obeyed.

The car sped off, the partition rising between us.

The sudden movement threw me against Lucian. My nose hit his chest; pain shot through me, bringing tears to my eyes.

I was furious.

I pushed myself up, determined to leave his embrace, but a strong arm encircled my waist, holding me fast. I struggled, but couldn’t escape his grip.

“Lucian, what are you doing?” The words, so often his, became mine.

He pressed me against him and the door. His voice was cold.”Seren, who gave you the courage to agree to have another mate? Huh? Do you think I am dead?”

“Is it because of you?” I asked, my tone mocking.

“Seren, I forbid you to go on choosing another mate!” His voice was ice, his words a command.

My contempt deepened.”You forbid me? Lucian, who do you think you are? I’ve made up my mind! You have no say in this!”

Last night, Calista had asked him. He’d firmly chosen Ayla. I wasn’t upset by his choice. Calista didn’t have the memories of those five years, but I knew how important Ayla was to him.
