Silas sat across from her, waiting for an answer.
Sienna didn't speak immediately.
She stared at the untouched cup of tea on the table, watching the loose leaves rise and fall in the water.
Clara's words still echoed in her ears.
The subtle jab gnawed at her.
Clara had only dared to say those things because she was betting Sienna wouldn't have the courage to confront Silas about it.
Clara assumed Sienna would be too terrified of losing his favor, forcing her to swallow the insult and let the paranoia eat her alive.
It was a viciously calculated move.
But Clara had miscalculated.
"Director Hayes, Dr. Rhodes told me something today. I found it hard to believe, so I wanted to ask you face-to-face."
Sienna raised her eyes, looking directly into his.
"She said you hired an astrologer in Hong Kong to read my birth chart. That I'm destined to bring luck and prosperity to your family, and that we are a perfect match. Supposedly, the next twenty years of the Hayes Group's fortune depends on it."
Silas's fingers twitched against his knee.
"She also claimed your aunt said this herself."
The office plunged into absolute silence for a few seconds.
"Director Hayes, is it true?" Sienna's voice was crisp and unflinching.
"It is true," Silas admitted. "I did have our charts read. And the results did show we are highly compatible. But that has nothing to do with why I chose you."
Sienna looked at him, her face perfectly composed.
"Director Hayes, you have your own beliefs and habits, and I have no right to interfere with them. But I have my boundaries, too."
She paused.
"You can call it pride, or you can call me overly sensitive. But I despise being discussed behind my back like some lucky charm. It bothers me, and I needed to make that clear."
Silas remained silent for a long moment before suddenly standing up. He walked over to his desk and pressed the intercom.
"Send Clara Rhodes to my office."
When Clara walked in, a bright smile was plastered on her face.
