The second their eyes met, Sienna yanked her hand out of Silas's grasp.
Her movement was erratic, as if she had been burned.
Silas's fingers remained curled in the empty air for a fraction of a second before he smoothly withdrew his hand.
Finn stood at the gate, refusing to step inside.
The streetlamps illuminated his back, casting his face in deep shadows, obscuring his expression completely.
But his hands, hanging limply at his sides, were curled into impossibly tight fists.
A gust of wind rustled the bamboo silhouettes against the walls.
Finn had seen the entire exchange with excruciating clarity.
Silas had been standing so closely to her, holding her hand...
The visual ripped through him like a devastating tsunami.
Only in this brutal moment did the reality finally sink in—Sienna was really going to be with someone else.
She truly didn't want him anymore.
"It's late. Do you need something?"
Silas spoke first, his tone returning to its customary aloofness.
Finn completely ignored him.
His unwavering stare remained locked on Sienna.
Sienna stood her ground, neither dodging his gaze nor uttering a word.
"I'm here to discuss business," Finn said evenly.
"Business?" Silas checked his watch, his demeanor indifferent. "You felt the need to break into my home in the middle of the night for that?"
Finn remained silent.
Silas continued.
"We'll discuss it at the office tomorrow."
He stepped forward, placing himself deliberately in front of Sienna, severing Finn's line of sight.
"Sienna, go back and get some rest."
Sienna nodded.
The only exit from the courtyard meant walking right past Finn.
She forced herself to remain calm, her face perfectly blank as she kept her eyes facing straight ahead.
"Sienna."
He said her name right as she brushed past his shoulder.
Her pace didn't falter.
"Are you staying here tonight?"
She didn't answer.
She simply walked away.
Sienna stared up at him.
The dim streetlamp filtered through the canopy, casting fragmented shadows across his face.
His eyes were completely bloodshot.
"Why shouldn't I be with him?" her voice was arctic.
Finn took a step closer.
He reached out, desperate to touch her cheek, but his hand froze in midair before retreating.
"I'll take care of York. Chloe will take him abroad, and you'll never have to see them again. I'll secure my position in the family, and I'll make sure no one ever hurts you again. As for my father and Ford..."
He paused, his Adam's apple bobbing sharply.
"I'm already dealing with Ford."
He enunciated every word with desperate clarity.
"When this is over, no one will be able to touch you. We can start over. Please?"
Sienna's pulse hammered erratically in her chest.
It was nothing like how she felt with Silas.
This heartbeat was a chaotic fusion of longing and agonizing pain, suffocating her completely.
She watched Finn stand there—a man who had been wandering in the dark for far too long, finally spotting a door and trying desperately to break it down.
But she knew what waited behind that door was no longer meant for her.
