Finn held the phone, remaining silent.
He had waited thirty years to hear those words.
Now that he was finally hearing them, he felt nothing at all.
He already knew this was just the prologue to the real demand.
"Finn, please let your brother go," she wailed, her voice pitiful and broken. "No matter what he's done, he's still your brother. You can't drive him into a corner like this. I'm begging you."
A nearby guard frowned as they watched the scene unfold.
An elderly, gray-haired mother sobbing hysterically on her knees before her son.
Anyone without context would assume the son was an absolute monster.
By pulling this stunt, Yolanda had once again successfully painted Finn as the heartless, ungrateful villain of the family.
"Get up, Mom," Finn said, his tone deadpan.
"I won't until you promise me," Yolanda refused to budge.
Even when the guard tried to help her up, she resisted.
Her eyes were glued to Finn in desperate fixation.
"Finn, if you want your mother to survive in here, promise me."
Finn watched her weaponize her guilt and desperation to the absolute limit.
What a shame he wasn't the man he used to be.
That man's heart was already dead.
"Ford's situation isn't up to me," he said coldly, stripped of any emotion.
Yolanda panicked.
"Yes, it is! All you have to do is say it was a misunderstanding, that you made a mistake. Release a statement, do an interview—there are a million ways you could fix this if you wanted to!"
"I can't, and I don't want to." Finn just felt exhausted.
"What did you just say?" Yolanda's pitch skyrocketed. The tears were still wet on her cheeks, but her entire demeanor flipped. "You are a Fletcher! You would be nothing without this family. Family is the most important thing in the world. You cannot do this to your brother! Have you forgotten how he treated you when you were little—"
"Mom," Finn cut her off.
He didn't raise his voice, but the finality in it choked the words right out of her.
"Do you have any conscience left, Finn? How can you say something so disgusting? How can you live with yourself?"
Yolanda simply couldn't comprehend it.
In the past, this routine had never failed. The tears, the desperate kneeling, the constant manipulation of his loyalty to his blood.
It used to work every single time.
As long as she played the 'family' card, he would always soften and bend to their will.
Today, she had exhausted her entire arsenal. She had cried, begged, kneeled, and apologized.
And yet, he didn't care at all? How was this possible?
Her mind raced frantically, trying to figure out where she had miscalculated.
Then, a name flashed into her head.
The only anomaly in the equation.
"Did Sienna put you up to this?" Her screech was ear-splitting. "That vicious, manipulative bitch! Do not let her poison your mind, Finn, she's trying to ruin you! Think about it! We were such a happy family before she sank her claws into you. She ruined everything!"
