Finn sat quietly beside her.
He didn't waste any time either, leaning over to confirm the logistical details of the extraction with Terrence in hushed tones.
Maeve ended the call and turned back to Finn.
"I found it. There's a reliable pharmaceutical contact overseas. My associate can bypass the usual channels and guarantee a monthly supply at forty percent below market price. We can lock it in right now."
"Thank you." Finn pushed the car door open. "You two stay here. Wait for me."
The stairwell was pitch black; the motion-sensor lights had burned out long ago.
He navigated the concrete steps up to the fourth floor and knocked three times.
The door cracked open just an inch, and Winston's dry, raspy voice slipped through the gap.
"Who is it? I'm not seeing anyone."
"Mr. Zimmer, four years ago, Ford Fletcher had you handle the soil test report for the Westside Project, and you altered the data for him. I want the backup of the original numbers."
Winston immediately tried to slam the door shut.
Finn shoved his hand against the wood, holding it open.
"I have something you desperately need."
Winston scoffed bitterly.
"I don't need your money!"
Finn stared him down.
"Linapten."
Winston froze.
For several agonizing seconds, there was absolute silence. Then, the door slowly opened wider.
Winston stood in the doorway, sizing Finn up from head to toe.
"Don't play games with me."
Finn didn't blink.
"Here's the contact information. You can call and verify the supply chain right now. If I'm lying, I'll walk away."
Winston retreated into the apartment, dialing the number with shaking hands.
A few minutes later, he returned, unable to hide the sheer relief and joy washing over his face.
"You're... Mr. Fletcher, right?"
Winston's entire demeanor had shifted.
His cloudy eyes suddenly sparked with life.
"The thing is... I really didn't keep a clean copy of the data. How about this, let me try to remember, give me some time..."
"I'm giving you exactly ten minutes to decide," Finn said, glancing at his watch. "In ten minutes, I walk away and find another angle. You aren't my only option."
