I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 499

Chloe's face cycled through several shades of pale, her voice tight with panic.

"I didn't do anything! York, why would you just say something like that?"

York clung desperately to Finn's leg without making a sound, burying his face directly into the crease of Finn's slacks. His tiny shoulders were completely rigid, looking like a kitten that had been yanked out of its nest with nowhere to hide.

Finn completely ignored Chloe. He reached down and gently pressed a hand to the back of the little boy's head.

When he looked up, his eyes were entirely frosted over.

"Chloe, the only reason you're even standing here right now is because I chose to look the other way on a lot of things you've pulled."

His tone was freezing, stripped of any trace of emotion.

"Don't think for a second I don't know what you've been doing behind my back. If you know what's good for you, you will keep your head down and behave!"

Chloe trembled violently.

She wanted to defend herself, but Finn gave her no opportunity to speak.

He had already bent down and scooped York back up. York slumped against his shoulder, burying his small face into Finn's neck, his fingers finally relaxing their death grip on Finn's collar.

At that moment, Grant Fletcher walked down the stone path, leaning on his cane.

He was wearing a dark brown, traditional-style jacket. His hair was impeccably groomed, and though his steps were slow, they were steady.

"What's going on here?"

His predatory gaze commanded immediate authority. He swept his eyes over the group, lingering briefly on Chloe's ashen face before settling on Finn.

"We're all family here, what's with the hostility?"

Maeve stood right beside Grant, dressed in a dark purple modern-traditional suit, her hair pinned up in a low bun.

She glanced over, but her eyes locked onto Sienna. A nearly imperceptible frown creased her forehead.

Though she didn't utter a word of reprimand, Sienna caught the expression loud and clear.

Grant turned to look at Maeve, his entire demeanor shifting instantly. He sounded eager, though he tried to mask it.

"Maeve, are you tired? Let's head inside first; the wind is strong out here."

Maeve didn't even look at him, her tone completely detached.

"Stay away from me."
