Sienna looked at Finn.
"To be honest, it does bother me every time York calls you Dad. But you aren't the only one torn up about this.
York was abused by his biological father and is constantly used as a pawn by his biological mother. His very birth was a tragedy.
That child's only ray of hope is you. You are the only person in this entire world who has ever shown him genuine love. I understand all of that."
Finn closed his eyes, overwhelmed by a deep, agonizing ache. He pulled Sienna into his arms, letting her warmth seep into his chest, and his heart slowly began to thaw.
What Sienna didn't say was that she, too, was someone desperately lacking in affection.
A domineering mother, an absentee father, and a family that prized sons over daughters.
She had also spent her life craving that pure, unconditional love from a parent.
Ultimately, she, Finn, and York were all the same.
That was why they found comfort in each other.
That was why she couldn't bring herself to be ruthless.
On a higher stone terrace across the resort, Noah and Georgina stood side by side, leaving about an arm's length between them.
Noah crossed his arms over his chest, glaring down at Finn and Sienna embracing in the courtyard below, his expression foul.
Georgina cast a sideways glance at him.
"Your sister looks happy. Why the long face?"
"You don't get it. My sister acts tough, but she actually has a really soft heart. I'm just worried she's going to get hurt."
Georgina completely disagreed.
"I think your future brother-in-law is deeply in love with her. The way he looks at her is entirely different. Honestly, the best thing you can do—" She gave him a quick once-over, "—is to stop causing trouble for your sister so she doesn't have to constantly worry about you."
"Excuse me? You know what I've realized? You are incredibly fake."
"What did I do?"
Noah glared at her.
"When my sister is around, you act all sweet and polite to me. But the second she's gone, your true colors come out. You seem to really look down on me, don't you?"
Caught in the act, Georgina didn't even flinch. She simply shrugged, completely unbothered.
