"Are you ordering me around? We are equals. I am not your maid, so do not use that tone with me!"
Her voice escalated with every word.
By the end of her outburst, a flicker of genuine panic flashed across Finn's dark eyes.
It was blatantly obvious that she had startled him.
For Sienna, the pent-up frustration she had been drowning in finally spilled over.
She had been carrying the crushing weight of his trauma entirely on her own.
And everyone had a breaking point.
She yanked the door open, completely ignoring Finn, and slammed it shut with a deafening crash, leaving him standing out in the hallway.
Sienna collapsed onto the sofa, gasping for air.
Her eyes burned with unshed tears.
But with a mountain of problems still waiting to be solved, she didn't have the luxury of crying.
Instinctively, she rested a protective hand over her lower stomach.
Slowly, her racing heart began to settle.
About five minutes passed.
She realized she hadn't heard a single sound from the hallway and panicked, wondering if Finn had wandered off.
In his current state, if he wandered out into the city alone, who knew what could happen to him?
Anxious, she hurried back to the entryway and pulled the door open.
Finn was still standing in the exact same spot.
He hadn't moved an inch.
He stood perfectly rigid, like a marble statue.
When he saw Sienna, his dark pupils finally tracked her movement.
Sienna let out a heavy sigh and stepped aside, leaving enough room for him to pass.
Finn processed the gesture and stepped inside.
As he walked past her, he muttered in a low voice:
"Could you please... thank you."
Sienna's heart gave a violent jolt.
That was the exact phrase she had taught him in the car.
He had actually listened, retained the information, and applied it.
In that tiny, awkward moment, Sienna felt a massive surge of hope.
A fresh wave of strength flooded her veins.
As long as she didn't give up and kept guiding him patiently, Finn would find his way back to her.
"Hello."
