Isaac's heart pounded wildly at Sienna's simple words.
It was unbelievable.
He feigned composure.
"Go ahead."
Sienna looked at him earnestly.
"Director Holloway, why are you helping me?"
Isaac weighed his words carefully before answering.
"I also reviewed that patient's scans. I believe your diagnosis is correct. You are highly professional."
Sienna gave him a deeply grateful look.
"Thank you for trusting me. Still choosing to believe me under these circumstances... you're highly professional yourself."
Just as Isaac assumed she was going to walk away, she turned back around.
"Director Holloway, the hearing was delayed by a week. Did you help coordinate that too?"
Isaac was at a loss for words, internally praising her sharp intuition.
"That... yes."
Sienna smiled warmly.
"It's okay. A week or two weeks doesn't make much difference to me. I believe the truth will speak for itself."
She paused. "But still, I need to thank you. Once the hearing is over, I'll treat you to dinner."
Gratitude had to be given where it was due.
She couldn't just play dumb.
Looking back, Director Holloway had helped her on multiple occasions, but out of consideration for Finn, she had never shown any proper appreciation.
Now, her mind was clear.
Finn was Finn, and Director Holloway was Director Holloway.
They couldn't be lumped together.
Isaac stood rooted to the spot, watching Sienna walk away.
He pulled out his phone and fired off a text to Finn.
"Sienna truly is resilient and full of fight. She hasn't been swayed by the public opinion at all. She's still insisting on doing what's right and has argued with the surgical department multiple times over a patient."
Finn replied instantly.
"She's always been like this. She never gives up on any patient. Back in med school, she always said she wanted to be a doctor with an unbreakable conscience. She kept that promise."
Looking at those words, Isaac typed out another line.
The night before the hearing, Isaac called Finn to issue a warning.
"The hearing is tomorrow. If these accusations are validated, Sienna's future is completely over. The medical system will permanently blacklist her. You know better than anyone how much she loves this profession."
The line was silent for a long time.
"She'll be fine," Finn's voice was low, but resolute. "She is too brilliant to let these people destroy her."
"How are things on your end?"
"Almost done. I just need two more days."
"I've already stalled for a week. There are no two more days. The hearing is tomorrow at 9 AM."
Finn went silent again.
"Stall until the afternoon. Just four hours."
Isaac took a deep breath.
"Done."
Sienna was sitting in the on-call room, staring at the computer screen.
Another email popped up.
She clicked it. It was another notice from the Ethics & Compliance Board.
