"Everything you just said, she heard it all."
Finn's expression shifted drastically.
"She didn't come in," Isaac continued. "She stood there for a minute, then left."
Finn didn't know whether to feel overjoyed or utterly devastated.
Just then, two knocks echoed through the room.
Four people filed in. Leading the pack was Julian Vance from Global Air's Aeromedical Division, followed by two uniformed staff members, and finally someone carrying a massive fruit basket and a lavish bouquet of lilies. They were clearly taking this visit seriously.
"Captain Fletcher, we're here representing Global Air to check on you." Julian stepped forward, placing the flowers on the nightstand. "Focus on your recovery. The flight roster can wait."
Finn gripped the edge of the mattress and pulled himself into a straighter position.
"Director Vance, I'm sorry to make you come all this way."
"Not at all. You're our most decorated captain." Julian sat in the bedside chair and took a sweeping glance around the private room.
"By the way, where is your attending physician? Where is Dr. Sterling?"
Finn's eyes flickered.
One of the staff members chimed in.
"She should be retrieving Captain Fletcher's audiology report. We asked at the nurses' station earlier."
The words had barely left his mouth when the door swung open.
Sienna walked in, holding a medical folder.
She swept her gaze over the room, intentionally bypassing Finn, and walked straight over to Julian.
"Director Vance, this is Captain Fletcher's audiology report." She opened the file and handed it over. "Mild congestion in the left eardrum, but no hearing loss. He should recover fully in about a week."
Julian took the report and flipped through it page by page.
When he reached the final page, his fingers stopped.
At the bottom margin, there were several lines of meticulously handwritten notes.
He read through them carefully, and when he looked back up at Sienna, his expression had shifted to one of deep respect.
"Dr. Sterling, did you write these annotations?"
"Yes. The patient's circumstances are unique, so I detailed the key areas of concern to ensure any follow-up physicians can quickly understand his status."
Julian scanned the lines again and nodded, a look of blatant admiration in his eyes.
"These notes are more thorough than what I see from most attending physicians. You are incredibly responsible, Dr. Sterling."
Sienna offered a polite nod but remained silent.
Julian pulled his phone from his pocket.
"Let's connect on social media. We might need to stay in touch regarding Captain Fletcher's recovery progress."
Sienna pulled out her phone and displayed her QR code.
Julian scanned it, and they were connected instantly.
Finn had already flipped his phone back over. The screen was glaringly bright, displaying his personal QR code in its full glory.
He held it up, locking eyes with Sienna.
"If you wouldn't mind, Dr. Sterling."
Sienna stared at the barcode, then glared into Finn's eyes.
She could practically see the sly, predatory glint lurking in his gaze, like a fox that had cornered its prey.
She didn't move a muscle.
"There's no need. A phone call will suffice in an emergency."
Julian blinked, entirely caught off guard by her blunt refusal.
"Dr. Sterling, is there a problem? Or is there an issue with Captain Fletcher's metrics that makes direct communication inappropriate?"
Sienna was rendered speechless.
If she said 'there's a problem,' Julian would demand to know what it was.
If she said 'an issue with his metrics,' she would be actively sabotaging Finn's aviation career.
She couldn't say a damn thing.
Sienna was completely trapped, backed into a corner with no way out.
Every single person in the room stared expectantly at her...
