I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 54

Parrish ignored him, extending his long legs to climb the stairs.

Curtis trailed behind him eagerly, like a loyal lackey.

"Parrish, you're back to see Bonnie, right? But you're too late. She moved out a while ago."

Parrish's footsteps faltered instantly.

He turned his head, his brow furrowed deeply. "When did she move out?"

"Sometime last week, I think. I'm not entirely sure, I just heard it from Jasmine."

Curtis scratched his head and continued, "She said she found a job that includes room and board, so she just canceled the lease here."

Standing in the narrow, dimly lit stairwell, Parrish's frown deepened.

She moved out, yet she hadn't said a single word to him.

And a job with room and board?

Where the hell was an unlicensed herbalist working as a receptionist going to find a job that offered room and board?

Who was she trying to fool?

She was clearly still putting on a brave face.

Her pride was simply too huge. She was terrified of Jasmine and her other friends looking down on her, and even more terrified of him looking down on her.

So, she would rather concoct this pathetic lie than let go of her ridiculous stubbornness.

Seeing Parrish's darkened expression, Curtis quickly muttered from the sidelines.

"Parrish, Bonnie is really holding a grudge this time. Can you believe she's still mad? Man, I don't know what goes through her head, she just can't let things go. It's been so long, how many days can she survive on that dead-end salary of hers?"

"Trust me, Parrish, she'll hit a wall soon enough and come crawling back to beg for your forgiveness."

Parrish maintained an icy demeanor, entirely unbothered by Curtis's sycophancy.

He continued taking wide strides up to the fifth floor.

He was wondering—even if Bonnie had moved out, did she pack up the clothes and everyday items he had left in the apartment, or had she just abandoned them there?

Just as he reached the landing of the fifth floor, his phone vibrated in his pocket.

Parrish pulled it out, feeling irritated.

When he saw the name flashing on the screen, his pupils constricted sharply.

Curtis craned his neck to peek, and upon seeing the name, he slapped his thigh in sheer excitement.

"Parrish! Look, what did I tell you?! She finally took you off the block list!"

Parrish said nothing. He simply stared at the darkened screen.

Sure enough.

Less than three seconds later, the phone buzzed again.

Bonnie was nothing if not persistent.

The second time, he still ignored it.

The third time, he let it ring until it disconnected on its own.

It wasn't until the fourth call came through that Parrish casually swiped the screen and lazily pressed the phone to his ear.

"Bonnie, do you finally realize how important I am to you?"

However, before he could even finish his sentence, an almost unhinged scream tore through the receiver.

"Parrish York! Did you sneak back to my hometown and take my grandfather's ledger without my permission?!"

Bonnie's voice was shaking. It was the tremor of absolute, unadulterated fury.

The smirk on Parrish's lips froze instantly.

His brow knotted together tightly. "What did you say?"
