I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 62

Come to think of it, her life really was a failure.

Her finger slid uselessly across her contact list, the cold glow of the screen illuminating her pale face.

Half an hour passed, and she just stared at it blankly, having no idea who to call.

Besides Jasmine, she didn't have a second friend she could rely on in this cold city.

But Parrish was right. Jasmine had a critical probation review the next morning. She couldn't disturb her best friend now, and she certainly couldn't ruin her career.

Just as she was trapped in despair, gripping her phone, it suddenly buzzed against her palm.

The name 'Jasper Ford' popped up on the screen.

Bonnie's breath caught, her fingers going stiff.

The officer standing nearby tapped the table impatiently and reminded her coldly.

"Put it on speaker."

Helpless, Bonnie hit the answer button and turned on the speaker.

"Ms. Hayes, why haven't you returned yet?"

Bonnie's eyes dimmed, her throat tightening. "Jasper, I..."

Before she could explain, the officer snatched the phone from her hand.

"Hello, are you a family member of Bonnie Hayes?"

Jasper paused for a moment on the other end, but quickly recovered.

"...You could say that. What's happened to her?"

"Bonnie Hayes is suspected of trespassing and vandalism. She's currently at the South Precinct. A family member needs to come sign the paperwork before she can be released."

Jasper's voice immediately dropped an octave. "Understood. I'll be right there."

...

Meanwhile, at the Riverstone Heights apartment.

Quentin Vance sat rigidly on the sofa, radiating a terrifyingly low air pressure.

He had just returned from a business trip, having barely slept or eaten for two days.

One premium nutritional meal after another had been swapped out, but he found them all unbearable, feeling nauseous after just a single bite.

Jasper: "..."

Suppressing a laugh, Jasper quickly backpedaled. "Understood, Director Vance. I'll head out right now and bring Ms. Hayes back safely."

...

Half an hour later, inside the South Precinct lobby.

Jasper strode in briskly, nearly colliding with Parrish, who was on his way out.

Parrish locked eyes with the man, instinctively furrowing his brow.

He felt like the man looked familiar, perhaps someone he had seen at a high-end business banquet.

But he couldn't place him right away.

However, when he saw Jasper walk straight to the registration desk and offer to sign Bonnie out, Parrish's expression flipped entirely.

He quickly marched over, blocking Jasper's path.

"Who are you? What is your relationship with Bonnie Hayes?"

Parrish's voice was laced with condescending interrogation, his eyes dark and hostile.
