I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 121

As the car pulled out of her apartment complex, Gavin specifically checked the rearview mirror. The vehicle that had been tailing them a few days ago was nowhere to be seen.

Sophie unlocked her phone and began typing out her daily work plan.

This had been her routine for years. In the past, she would arrive at the office half an hour early to draft it. Now, she could organize everything during her commute, allowing her to dive straight into execution upon arrival and maximize her efficiency.

There were many new challenges to tackle at the new company. She couldn't afford to waste a single second.

Gavin didn't interrupt her. He turned down the music and occasionally glanced at her during red lights, though he spent most of his time monitoring the traffic behind them in the rearview mirror.

There was no sign of that mysterious car all the way to Sophie's office building.

Was it finally over?

Gavin still couldn't figure out the motive behind the recent stalking, and his mind remained on edge.

"See you tonight," Sophie said, unbuckling her seatbelt. She waved at him and pushed the car door open.

The moment her feet hit the pavement, her spine straightened like a warrior donning armor. Any trace of vulnerability vanished instantly.

It reminded Gavin of the very first time he saw her. She had been standing by a window, looking utterly exhausted, her head resting against the frame. But the second she heard footsteps, she immediately stood tall, nodding and smiling at the students entering the auditorium.

She was wearing a sleek pencil skirt that showcased her slender, toned calves. Her strides weren't long, but every step was firm and resolute.

Gavin was lost in thought until the car behind him honked. He snapped back to reality and drove off.

They had agreed to treat Gwen to dinner that night, but Sophie was running late. It was already eight o'clock by the time she left the office and rushed straight to the nearby restaurant, where Gavin and Gwen were waiting.

"I'm literally starving," Gwen complained the second she saw Sophie.

"I told you not to wait for me and just start eating," Sophie apologized, taking the seat next to Gavin.

Gwen pointed at Gavin and huffed, "The guy paying the bill insisted on waiting for you. What was I supposed to do?"

Gavin just smiled and signaled the waiter to start bringing out the food.

"It looks like your new job is just as demanding as your old one. Why put yourself through this? Just let Gavin bring home the bacon while you focus on looking pretty."
