I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 143

The girl wasn't just in lust; she was actually falling in love. That was wonderful.

A knowing, delighted smile spread across Sophie's face.

She was still grinning when she walked over to Gavin.

His eyes crinkled with amusement the second he saw her. "Good news?"

"Yeah. Gwen and Jason finally worked through their drama. She actually wants to take things slow and build a real relationship with him."

"That is good news. Now I don't have to worry about her trying to steal you away from me." Gavin chuckled, wrapping an arm comfortably around her shoulders.

Sophie shot him a playful glare, though there was no real heat behind it. Her bright eyes sparkled with mirth, and the dimples framing her smile were on full display.

She was in such a fantastic mood that even his teasing couldn't annoy her. It felt like everything in her life was suddenly falling into place. The dreams she had quietly harbored were becoming a reality, one by one.

She remembered her mother saying how content she was with their life right now. Sophie felt exactly the same. This was a truly happy chapter, and if things could just stay this way forever, she would ask for nothing more.

"Let's go celebrate, okay?" Sophie tilted her head up at him, her large eyes shining with excitement.

"For Gwen and Jason?" Gavin arched a brow, idly rubbing her earlobe between his fingers.

"Not just for them. I'm just happy. There's been a lot of good news lately. Just the two of us. We won't crash their romantic bubble."

"Alright. Just the two of us," Gavin agreed, his low laugh rumbling softly above her.

She was wearing flat white sneakers today, making her look incredibly small standing next to him.

They headed to a cozy sushi spot, sliding the paper door shut to close off their private booth before settling onto the cushions.

Sophie was in high spirits and ordered a small carafe of sake.

She filled her own cup and briefly waved it under his nose, teasing, "You just get to smell it. Given your alcohol tolerance, you probably shouldn't drink."

Her mischievous expression was entirely out of character. It was vibrant and lively, making her look incredibly endearing.

Gavin laughed, playing along by taking a dramatic sniff of the sake before raising his teacup to clink against hers.

He waited for her to finish the shot before leaning in, capturing her lips. He kissed her deeply, tasting the sharp sweetness of the sake as it mingled with the earthy flavor of his tea.

The kiss lingered, heavy and slow. By the time he pulled away, Sophie felt a little dizzy, as if she were already buzzed.

"Are you trying to get drunk like this?"

She looked at him, her gaze already soft and slightly hazy.
