I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 146

Eileen snatched a red heel from the rack and violently hurled it at him.

"Do you want to know what I found in my father's office?"

She didn't pause for his reaction, well aware he wouldn't give her the satisfaction.

"A pair of red Mary Janes. Size six. He lied to my face and claimed they were an early birthday present for me, but I wear a size eight. This was back in May, a full month before my birthday. A week later, I went back, and the shoes were gone. Who do you think he gave them to?"

"My mother interrogated his assistant, but the assistant had zero record of him buying them or shipping them out. You know my father. He has never once wasted his own time picking out a gift. For every holiday and birthday, his assistant buys the presents for me and my mother."

"At the end of April, he flew to Seattle again. He booked the ticket himself, bypassing his assistant completely. He claimed it was a business trip, but he went entirely alone. My mother only found out after she saw those photos and hired someone to pull his flight records. If it was really just business, why would he hide it like a criminal?"

Eileen glared at him, a toxic smirk twisting her face. She was going to force him to see exactly what kind of trash he was so obsessed with.

"Those red shoes were a romantic gift, weren't they? I don't need to spell out who he bought them for."

Eileen fixated on the vein pulsing erratically in Luke's neck. Seeing his anguish only fueled her bitter rage, making her want to tear him apart even more.

"She really is a filthy whore. She seduced you, then she moved on to Gavin, and now she's got her claws in my father. She's shameless. This is the woman you threw everything away for. God, Luke, you are just pathetic."

She wished every venomous word out of her mouth was a literal dagger plunging into his heart. He had humiliated her, and she was going to make sure he drowned in his own misery.

"It's not possible," Luke muttered, shaking his head.

"Still in denial? The stress has made my mother physically ill. Why don't you go ask her yourself? Ask her if I'm lying. Ask her if any of this is real."

"You're out of your mind." Luke ripped the front door open, silently demanding she leave.

"Think about it, Luke! Do you really want to wake up one day and have to call your precious Sophie your stepmother? If you don't want to see her weasel her way into our family as my father's mistress, you'd better come with me to see my mother."

Every single word she screamed buried itself deep into his brain.

As he sat beside her on the final train back to Boston, Luke truly felt like he was losing his grip on reality.

He knew down to his bones that Eileen's psychotic theory couldn't possibly be true, yet here he was, following her blindly.

Thinking back to the moment he had seen Harold outside Sophie's office building, a cold knot of dread tightened in his stomach.

What if Harold had actually developed a sick obsession with Sophie? No, he absolutely refused to accept that.

One was the mentor he respected most in the world, and the other was the only woman he had ever loved. The mere thought was enough to drive him insane.

"Did you... did you have any idea this was happening? Is that little tramp doing this to punish you, or to get back at Eileen?"

"Victoria, she would never do anything like this. This has to be a massive misunderstanding."

"A misunderstanding?" Victoria hissed, her teeth grinding in fury. "Harold has been a ghost lately. I speak to him, and he stares right through me. That vixen has completely stolen his mind. She was in your bed, and now she's in his? It's... it's absolutely depraved."

Luke felt as though he had just been backhanded across the face. A humiliating heat burned the tips of his ears.

"Did you know she quit her job? I reached out to Madison Miller. She told me the girl resigned back in March. And that friend of hers, the Grayson woman? She actually blocked my number."

Eileen turned her manic gaze to Luke. "You know where to find her, don't you?"

It finally clicked. Eileen hadn't just come to torment him with her sick theories; she was using him to track down Sophie's address.

"I don't know where she is. The last time we spoke... she blocked me on everything."

Eileen and Victoria exchanged a dark look, clearly furious at his answer.

"It's fine, Mom. We'll hire a private investigator. She can't hide forever."
