I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 215

Sophie had no idea that when she and Gavin hung their wishing plaque, someone was standing a short distance away, watching her every move.

After she and Gavin walked away, a new wooden board appeared right next to theirs. It read, "May your wish come true," with no signature.

Luke Lawrence had traced his steps back here based on memories from two years ago. This was his last recollection before his accident, and it represented the sweetest period he had ever shared with Sophie.

He had come looking for the plaque she wrote back then, never expecting to run into her and Gavin.

She had actually brought Gavin here. She had let another man's shadow eclipse the final memory that was supposed to belong exclusively to him.

Luke's heart sank into an abyss.

Standing behind the crowd and hidden by the shadow of a massive tree, he watched in silence as Gavin handed the freshly written plaque to Sophie.

After she finished writing, the two of them smiled into each other's eyes for a long moment before hanging it up together.

Only when they were completely out of sight did Luke step forward. He saw their names, and he saw the words she had added: "Growing old together."

Her wish hadn't changed; the only thing that had changed was the man she planned to fulfill it with.

Luke took a blank plaque, wrote "May your wish come true," and hung it right beside hers. He then scanned the dense sea of wooden boards until he found the one Sophie had written two years ago. He unhooked it and slipped it into the pocket of his overcoat.

It was only later that evening that Luke realized he was staying at the exact same hotel as Sophie and Gavin.

He had arrived on the first day of the holidays but hadn't bumped into them for the first two days. It wasn't until he walked into the restaurant for dinner that he spotted them.

After a moment of hesitation, he turned around and retreated to his room.

Standing by the floor-to-ceiling window in his suite, he could see the shimmering lake nearby and the rolling mountains in the distance. The view was breathtaking.

But right now, the sun had already set, the vibrant sunset hues had faded, and the sky was steadily darkening, casting a hazy blur over the water and the peaks.

This Japanese-style resort by the lake was a place Sophie had adored.

The evening before they left, she had sat by the glass window with him, watching the sunset, and asked, "Can we come here every year?"

He had told her yes. He had even entertained the thought that maybe she would be willing to stay by his side under a different title.
