"Hurry up, take a shower, and get to bed. You have to be up early to pick up the bride."
Sophie dragged herself out of bed at half past five the next morning. Gillian had already orchestrated everything down to the minute, and under the guidance of Gillian's assistant, Sophie moved through the schedule flawlessly.
Once the ceremony wrapped up and the final guests departed, the newlyweds were finally off to their honeymoon destination: Greece.
They took an afternoon train to New York City, enduring a long layover before finally touching down in Athens twenty-four hours later.
On the flight, right before drifting off to sleep, Gavin's last coherent thought was that the absolute first order of business upon reaching the hotel was reclaiming their stolen wedding night.
When they finally arrived at the resort, it was evening back in New York City, but barely noon in Athens.
Sophie had slept through most of the flight. Stepping into the city of her dreams, she was practically vibrating with energy.
Between their wedding leave and vacation days, they only had two weeks. Every second of this trip was precious. Determined not to waste a single moment, Sophie wanted to hit as many landmarks as humanly possible.
They grabbed lunch at the hotel restaurant, and Sophie pulled her travel itinerary out of her purse. "Where to first? The Catholic Church or The Acropolis?"
She flipped open the guide, eyes already scanning the pages.
But Gavin only had one thing on his mind: cashing in on a wedding night that was three days overdue.
"Let's grab a shower and take a nap. We'll head out once we're rested."
Gavin pulled Sophie back to their suite, drawing her into a tangle of sheets and breathless kisses until the sun dipped below the horizon, finally letting them fall into a deep, tangled slumber.
By the time they opened their eyes, it was morning of the next day.
"This is entirely your fault. We wasted half a day," Sophie groaned, her heart aching at the thought of the two landmarks they could have checked off the list.
"Look on the bright side, we perfectly adjusted to the time zone."
Gavin rested his arms behind his head, offering her a lazy, satisfied grin. Bathed in the morning light, with her long hair cascading over her shoulders, Sophie looked breathtaking, even when she was glaring at him.
"I want to stay on every single island," Sophie murmured, wrapping her arms around Gavin as they took in the view.
It was far too beautiful. Neither of them wanted to leave.
"Sunrise, sunset, under the blazing sun, or beneath the moonlight—every hour has its own kind of magic," Sophie sighed, feeling like she could stare at the horizon forever.
"Long hair, short hair, laughing, glaring—every version of you has its own kind of magic."
Gavin, the practical scientist, offered a terribly cheesy, unrhymed comeback, but Sophie loved it.
She felt completely free to be herself around him, showcasing every mood and emotion without hesitation. She knew that no matter what version of herself she presented, he loved her all the same.
On the flight home, Sophie rested her head on Gavin's shoulder. Beneath the airline blanket, their fingers were intertwined.
The honeymoon had flown by, but it didn't matter. Next year, the year after, in ten years, twenty years, thirty years... as long as they could still walk, they would keep having honeymoons.
