Sophie smiled and nodded. She had noticed.

"I showed my mom the divorce certificate he sent me last time. She didn't say anything, but she spaced out for a really long time. I don't think she ever actually expected Harold to go through with divorcing Victoria."

Both Sophie and Sarah knew that getting a divorce hadn't been easy for Harold. Victoria had refused to let go, which meant Harold undoubtedly had to surrender a lot in the settlement.

The month Harold officially filed for divorce, Victoria had shown up at Sarah's house to cause a scene.

She had pounded on the door while screaming obscenities.

Gavin had been out of town on business, and Sophie happened to be visiting her mother.

As Sophie spoke, her eyes welled up with tears.

She had even bawled when Gavin accidentally pricked his finger on a sharp shell while cracking walnuts for her.

Gavin loved teasing her about it, joking that pregnancy hormones had turned her into a little crybaby.

"When our son grows up and sees how easily you cry, he's going to make fun of you," Gavin said, affectionately tapping her nose.

Sophie grabbed Gavin's hand and rested her cheek against his palm.

If Harold had been by her mother's side when she was born, treating her mother the way Gavin treated her, her mother would have been just as incredibly happy as she was now.
