I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 97

Although Gavin merely captured Sophie's lips for a brief, tender moment before pulling back, the rest of the group still caught the exchange.

Sarah turned her gaze toward the sea of flowers, but Mia was entirely devoid of a filter. She slapped her hands over her eyes and loudly declared, "Uncle Gavin is being naughty!"

Gavin flashed Mia a playful 'shush' gesture, while Sophie's face had already flushed crimson. She spun around and power-walked into the distance.

Gwen glanced over at Jason. He was staring down slightly, his jawline tense and rigid.

She gave a subtle shake of her head. When it came to romance, some found joy while others found only sorrow.

As someone who used to be Gavin's strongest advocate, seeing Jason looking so desolate still made her feel a pang of sympathy.

But she also knew that showing pity would only be a secondary blow to Jason's pride. Pretending she hadn't noticed a thing, she shouted at Mia, "Look at how pretty that butterfly is!"

Gwen successfully redirected Mia's attention, leading her away to chase butterflies.

Gavin followed behind Sophie at a leisurely pace, maintaining a gap of two or three steps.

Sophie halted, turning around to glare at him. "Everyone saw that! It's so embarrassing."

Sophie wasn't actually furious; she just felt incredibly awkward doing that right in front of her mother and a young child.

Gavin pursed his lips toward Sophie, gesturing for her to look off to the side.

On an adjacent trail, a couple was passionately making out while taking a selfie, completely oblivious to their presence. When people got caught up in the moment, they rarely cared about their surroundings.

Sophie shot Gavin another sharp glare before taking long strides forward.

By now, the two of them had walked quite a distance along the field boundaries, flanked by vibrant yellow canola flowers that grew almost as tall as they were. Gavin stepped up to grab her hand. "If we don't head back soon, they're really going to start getting ideas."

Sophie's face burned hot again. She had only ducked away because she couldn't handle everyone staring at them, but after walking off for this long, her mother was probably starting to worry.

She had no choice but to turn back with Gavin. Shooting him a final look, she warned, "From now on, absolutely not in front of my mom. And Mia is still so young..."
