I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 98

What about Harold? If he wanted to keep someone on the side in secret, it probably wouldn't be difficult for him at all.

Footsteps echoed from the staircase. The maid came up and knocked on the door, announcing that Arthur Lawrence and his family had arrived.

Arthur walked in first, followed closely by Eleanor, who was linking arms with a stiff-faced Luke.

"Mrs. Lawrence." Seeing Luke standing rigidly beside Eleanor, Eileen felt another surge of grievance. She reached out to grab Eleanor's hand and started sobbing all over again.

"Oh, stop crying now. If you make yourself sick from crying, your parents will be heartbroken, and I've always loved you like my own daughter. Seeing you cry breaks my heart, too."

Eleanor stroked her hair, offering soft, soothing words.

Harold and Victoria exchanged a rapid glance. In the past, Eleanor had always claimed she loved Eileen like a future daughter-in-law.

Even though they both now agreed that this forced arrangement was doomed, hearing Eleanor and Arthur make their stance so glaringly obvious still left a bitter taste in their mouths.

Eleanor continued to gently comfort Eileen, suggesting she go out more, see the world, and try to relax her mind, but she deliberately avoided mentioning a single word about her future with Luke.

"Eileen, why don't you come with your mom and me to the Maldives? Or maybe New Zealand? Your dad and Mr. Lawrence are both busy, and it's been a while since your mom and I went on a real vacation."

Victoria quickly chimed in. "Yes, exactly! Mom really wants to travel, too. Mrs. Lawrence and I would be completely lost overseas without you to help us."

Eileen looked over at Luke. Eleanor instantly caught her drift and added, "Luke is too busy with work to come. We'll let the three men work hard to make money while we go out and enjoy ourselves."

Seeing that Eileen still looked intensely reluctant, Eleanor smiled and added, "Luke, you're going to cover all our travel expenses, and no backing out."

"Not a problem." Luke's expression remained completely unreadable.

"I need to ask you something," Eileen said, staring directly at Luke.

Eleanor looked at her son, then at Eileen, a slight frown creeping onto her face.

"Let's head downstairs and let the two of them talk it out," Victoria said, tugging lightly at Eleanor's sleeve before linking arms with Harold to exit the room.

Luke turned his head away. He physically could not look at Eileen's face, twisted so grotesquely by jealousy, nor could he stomach the venom spewing from her mouth.

"What, did I hit a nerve? Got nothing to say now?" Eileen suddenly started laughing.

"Say whatever you want to say. If you resent me or hate me, I have absolutely no complaints."

"I won't let you get what you want! Even if both our parents don't want us together anymore, I still won't let you be with her! Don't even dream of a happy ending for the two of you!"

"I'm calling Aunt Victoria up here. You need to rest."

As Luke turned to walk out the door, Eileen grabbed the water glass from her nightstand and hurled it violently at his back. The glass slammed into him, crashing to the floor with a sharp shatter, sending shards flying everywhere.

Hearing the commotion, Victoria rushed upstairs, crossing paths with Luke as he was heading down. She turned her head and saw that the back of his shirt was completely soaked.

Victoria rubbed her temples. These two were an absolute nightmare. Not even bothering to scold Luke, she quickened her pace toward her daughter's room.
