Chapter 10
Eleanor watched, satisfied, as she peeled wrapper after wrapper, feeding the twins liqueur chocolates until their faces were smeared.
Huh. Just eat more and more!
Anyway, Fiona was gone. Seth would be hers again.
She’d bear his real heirs.
These little-brats? Just obstacles to eventually remove.
But first… confirmation her death.
She slipped back to her room, checking her phone. Her blood ran cold.
A glaring red exclamation point.
Blocked.
Frantic, she dialed the kidnapper’s number. Dead tone.
What?!
Had Fiona survived?
Panic clawed at her. She snatched a maid’s phone, redialing the number.
This time, it rang.
“What the hell? Why block me? We had a deal! Is it done?” Eleanor hissed.
A pause. Then a lazy, mocking voice. “Deal was ‘money solves problems.’ She offered ten times yours. Course I let her go.”
“You lying scum! How dare-”
“Dare? Call the cops! Go on! You think your hands are clean? Listen, lady. Scored big on this one. Retiring. Number’s toast. Don’t bother looking.”
Click. The line died. Redialing brought only the dead tone.
Eleanor trembled, fear icing her veins.
She crept towards Seth’s study, needing to gauge his awareness.
He was on the phone.
“Fiona still not home? Fine. Let her be.” His voice was tight.
“Dig deeper on that club guy and the kidnapper. Find the connection.”
Frustration gnawed at him.
Logic screamed Fiona was reckless, manipulative, playing games.

Chapter 10
She deserved the cold shoulder. Punishment.
Yet another voice, quieter but persistent, whispered worry.
In the club’s haze, lost in passion, only Fiona’s name had been on his lips.
He’d grown accustomed to her. More than that – he saw her, Fiona, not a shadow of Eleanor.
Eleanor was a regret, a closed chapter. No spark remained.
Seth pressed his fingers to his temples.
Had he failed to make her feel secure? He’d do better.
If she needed it, he’d put oceans between him and Eleanor.
The realization struck like lightning splitting the darkness: He was bargaining with himself. For her.
Since when did Seth Sterling compromise?
Why did Fiona shatter his rules?
Because it’s love.
The admission was a thunderclap. Clarity, brutal and absolute.
No more cold war. No more waiting. He needed Fiona now.
