Chapter 4
As soon as I left the house, I got into my car and opened the live feed from the hidden cameras I’d installed earlier that week.
I hadn’t been gone more than half an hour when Alice showed up.
They were all over each other on the couch, rolling off and continuing on the floor.
From the couch to the bedroom, then to the bathroom…
The man who always claimed he was “too tired” around me seemed to have found his vigor from a decade ago when he was with her.
I calmly saved the footage, added it to the files from the past few days, and sent a quick text to Mrs. Taylor.
[Let’s get started.]
The next day, I carefully broke the news to Michael that the funds were tied up.
He shot out of bed and grabbed me by the collar.
“What did you just say?”
“I’m so sorry,” I said, letting tears stream down my face.
“I didn’t think Mrs. Taylor would move all the money overseas. Without a valid reason, we can’t get it back.”
“What do you mean, a valid reason?”
I started sobbing harder.
“She said unless there’s a death involved, we can’t access the funds until the project is finished.”
His grip on my collar loosened, and I saw his eyes darken, like a bottomless pit.
“Honey, are you mad at me?”
I asked in a trembling voice.
He suddenly gave me a fleeting smile.
“Of course not. Why would I be mad at you?”
“The money’s still in the project. It’s not gone,” he said, now soothing me as though he were the perfect husband.
But I didn’t let my guard down.
Sure enough, the very next day, my informant told me he’d purchased a hefty life insurance policy for me.
That evening, when I returned home, my son, who usually stayed at his boarding school, was there waiting.
“Mom, something’s wrong with Dad,” he said, running up to me.
“He was foaming at the mouth, and Aunt Alice took him to the hospital.”

Chapter 4
Panicked, I rushed to go with him, but he stopped me.
“Aunt Alice said Dad’s treatment will cost a lot. You should grab some cash first-at least $15,000.
Without hesitation. I agreed.
But when I arrived at the hospital, Alice met me with a sorrowful expression.
“I’m so sorry. We did everything we could.”
I froze, staring at the body being wheeled out under a white sheet.
“How could this happen?”
There he was, lying completely still on the hospital bed.
No breath left in him.
My son suddenly slapped me across the face.
This is all your fault! If you hadn’t upset him, Dad wouldn’t have had a stroke! You’re nothing but a curse!”
I slapped him back, harder, then calmly called the organ donation center.
“Hello, this is Michael’s next of kin. He passed away due to illness. Please proceed with the organ donation he signed up for.”
Alice looked stunned.
“What organ donation?”
My son grabbed my arm, squeezing it tightly.
“What are you talking about?”
I wiped away my tears and replied steadily, “Michael signed up for organ and body donation last year.”
“No!” Alice shouted, panic setting in.
“He’s been dead for too long! His organs are no longer viable for transplant.”
“That’s fine,” I said with a calm smile.
“He can still be used as a cadaver for medical training.”
The donation team arrived quickly,
I blocked both my son and Alice as I gestured for the team to enter the operating room.
My son, now taller than me, shoved past and stood in front of the doctors.
