Chapter 8
I called 911 immediately. He barely survived, crying and begging me.
“Mom, I really know I was wrong. I don’t like Miss Ashford anymore!”
I saved him because I’d save anyone in that situation.
But I really didn’t want to relive the past.
When your heart dies, how can it come back to life?
Reed made promises.
“I’ll do everything I can to make things right.”
They bent over backward trying to please me. But it all felt fake.
Finally, Willow couldn’t sit still anymore.
She refused to dissolve the marriage.
“Without my consent, you and I are still married. You two were doing just fine with me, weren’t you? I love you, Reed. You know that.”
Reed stepped back.
“Get away from me. Don’t ever show up like this again. I have nothing to do with you. This marriage has to end.”
He tried everything. Filed every lawsuit he could think of.
He wanted to prove the marriage was invalid, but he couldn’t.
He and Willow had willingly become husband and wife. They’d lived together after the marriage.
Even when he shouted in court:
“I only stayed there three months a year! I was just… I was just pretending!”
The judge didn’t listen.
Because Willow claimed they’d consummated the marriage. That they were a complete family.
Even when Reed cheated and had a bastard child, she’d graciously accepted him as her own.
The father and son couldn’t explain themselves. The audience sneered at them.
“What a scumbag. Pulling stunts like this just to leave his wife. Shameless.”
“She even accepted your affair, and you still want a divorce? Pathetic.”
Reed couldn’t defend himself. Someone threw a wad of paper at his head.
Willow won. She clung to Reed’s arm, triumphant.

Chapter 8
“I told you. You’re mine for life.”
Reed jerked away like he’d been electrocuted.
“Get lost!”
He couldn’t hold it in anymore. He roared and grabbed Willow by the throat?
“You ungrateful bitch. I should’ve let you die in that hospital.”
Willow laughed hysterically.
“You can’t leave me. None of you can. Reed, you’re all I have left. My family’s gone. You promised me I’d always be your family. Why can’t you keep your word?”
Reed’s eyes bulged.
“You’re a rotten person. No wonder no one’s left. No one wants you!”
Willow refused to let him go. She was determined to tie him down forever.
Jasper, who used to adore her, bit her arm.
“Give me my mom back! You’re a bad woman!”
But Willow just smiled.
“You’re legally mine, sweetie. We’re family on paper. So what are you talking about?”
Father and son fell into deep despair. They’d dug their own grave.
Even so, they kept showing up in front of me.
But I found my trump card.
“If you can get divorced, I’ll come back.”
Reed always hung his head and sighed.
“I will. I’m trying.”
But he kept failing. He’d disappear for days, frustrated, then come back and try again.
He and Willow tortured each other relentlessly.
Finally, he snapped. He dragged Willow out and beat her.
“Don’t push me! I’ll take us both down if I have to! Divorce!”
But Willow had lost her mind.
“Even if I die, I’m staying with you. I’ll never let you go!”
Reed didn’t show up for a long time after that.
Just when I thought he’d given up, the news broke.

Chapter 8
Reed had killed Willow.
He collapsed, relieved.
In his final moments, he made sure to transfer Jasper’s household registration out of Willow’s name.
That way, Jasper would have no connection to her.
He didn’t want to be entangled with her anymore.
He lay on the ground, exhausted, half-dead.
It was all his fault.
He called the police and turned himself in.
Willow looked at Reed in disbelief as she died.
“I loved you so much. Why couldn’t you just be with me? Men are so cheap. You enjoyed those three months every year, but when you had to be with me every day, I became a burden. Haha. Neither of us won-me or Rowan. We’re both pathetic for loving you. You don’t deserve it!”
That was the line that made Reed strike the killing blow.
“It’s all because of you. If you hadn’t come into my life…”
But he knew Willow was right. He was cheap.
He didn’t want to break his routine, but he didn’t want to stay in it either.
How could anyone be so greedy?
So he waited quietly for his sentence.
Finally, Reed was sentenced to death.
He left all his assets to me and Jasper.
