Edwin picked up his fork first and told Nevin, “Demi likes salmon. Why aren’t you giving her any? Get her some belly meat. That’s the best part.”
Nevin glanced at Demi, then picked out a piece of salmen belly and placed it on her plate.
What used to taste fresh and sweet suddenly smelled overwhelmingly fishy–so strong it went straight to
her head.
Her throat tightened, and the nausea surged. She was about to find an excuse to go to the restroom.
But her body reacted before she could stand. She barely had time to cover her mouth and turn her head before dry-heaving.
“Ugh!”
The entire dining room fell silent instantly, and everyone turned toward her.
The fish smell in front of her was too strong. The more he tried to hold it back, the worse the nausea became
In the blink of an eye, her face turned pale.
Nevin placed a hand on her back, but she pushed him away. He frowned. “You’re not feeling well?”
Demi didn’t want to respond. But she heard Penelope gasp, “Demi, are… are you pregnant again?”
Demi’s body stiffened imperceptibly, her face turning several shades paler.
She shook her head, holding her breath. “No. I caught a cold these past two days. I just went to the hospital for medicine.”
Afraid they would notice anything, she apologized to Edwin. “Edwin, I’m sorry. You had the salmon flown in specially, but I have an upset stomach right now. I’ll just have something easy to digest.”
Her explanation only made Penelope look more suspicious.
After moving the fish away, the nausea finally eased. Dei barely ate anything-just half a bowl of soup while accompanying them through dinner.
Edwin truly seemed to only want her presence for dinner.
Even by the end of the meal, he didn’t say much to her
When it grew late, Edwin made a symbolic attempt to keep them, but Demi declined, and he didn’t insist.
Penelope, however, held Demi’s hand reluctantly, wanting her to stay at the estate for a few days.
Demi refused again.
Edwin, being older, headed upstairs to rest after dinner
Penelope escorted them to the entrance, waved, and went back inside.
Demi was about to get into the car when Nevin blocked her. “You’re pregnant.”

His toor was certain.
Demi’s heart stopped for a beat. Shame and anger surged, and she shoved Nevin hard. “I’m not! You think I would still have your child!?
“We’re getting divorced. Nevin, stop dreaming. I’m done with you. Don’t try to drag things out. Our court date is soon.”
She fired off the words, pushed past him, got in the car and sped away.
Nevin watched the car disappear, his thin lips lifting slightly as he said slowly, “Demi, you can’t fool me.”
She would only react like that if she were pregnant.
If she weren’t…..
She would’ve just given him a cold laugh, shot him a dislainful glance, and driven off.
The next morning.
Nevin was certain Demi was pregnant with his child. The fog that had weighed on him for days finally
cleared
