Chapter 155: Listen

When I got home, I headed straight for the bedroom, but it was empty, so was the bathroom and the balcony. I stepped out into the hallway, when I spotted Tim and asked him where Harper was. I learned that she had just gone into the study.

I pushed open the door and found her seated on the edge of the desk, her gaze glued to the book in her lap. She didn’t even look up at me.

She was now wearing a robe but from the collar, I could see that she was still wearing my shirt.

“Take it off,” I said, my tone a bit cold.

Without saying a word, she closed the book, set it down and slipped off the desk as if she planned to walk right past me and that was exactly what she did.

When she reached the door, I followed behind her, caught her wrist and pulled her back before I could stop myself.

The force made the loose knot on the robe come undone and my brain went blank when I got to see her bottom half. She had no pants on, leaving her thick thighs on full display and I forgot how to speak for a moment. But I recovered fast by having a blank expression and looking away from her sexy thighs, even though I just wanted to do the opposite.

“I don’t remember telling you that you could wear this shirt,” I said, trying to keep my gaze on her face.

She chuckled softly.

My eyes narrowed. “Do you think this is funny?”

She finally looked at me with a sigh of satisfaction as she said, “I finally got your attention, huh?”

I paused, realizing she was right and I hated that she was right.

“Since you’re already here, you’re going to listen to me this time.”

Her tone was so firm that I couldn’t just walk out, so I sighed, looking away and keeping my gaze on the wall as I listened.

“I’ll never get tired of saying this, so I’m sorry about what happened on the yacht,” she said, her voice softer now. “I didn’t mean to make you feel that way. And you only felt that way because you didn’t give me a chance to explain what I meant. I wasn’t jealous that Grayson was still with Tiffany. I was just so shocked that they were still together after he found out about the baby and all. I could’ve said it differently not to give you the wrong impression. Right now, I just need you to believe me.”

She moved the other side so she could look into my eyes, but I turned to face another direction. I didn’t know how to feel after what she had just said.

“After what I said on the yacht,” she said from behind me, “you were so quick to be harsh with me and you’ve kept it that way since then. I’ve tried so many times to get through to you, but you just wanted to punish me. You made me feel like nothing I was going to say was going to change anything. Honestly, you need to work

on that.”

I scoffed, turning around to face her. “Says the person who hung up on me the last time I fucked up by asking about Grasyon.”

“Are you being serious right now?” Her eyes narrowed. “This isn’t about that at all. Besides, that was different. There was no misunderstanding there.”

“I need to freshen up,” I said, heading towards the door.

She rushed past me and positioned herself near the door like she was blocking my escape.

“No.” She pressed her hand flat against my chest “You’re not about to walk away right now.”

Chapter 155: Listen

Her eyes were so locked on mine that it felt like a warning for me not to look away.

“It’s starting to feel like no matter what I do, you’ll just keep being mad at me,” she said. “Your silent treatment has gone on for so long that I couldn’t even tell you some good news about Anna.”

My eyes grew wide with curiosity. “What happened?”

She looked like she was about to tell me, but when she parted her lips to speak, they trembled along with that heavy breath.

She pressed her lips together like she couldn’t do it anymore and tried to leave, but I held onto her wrist, not wanting that to go on any further.

While she was still facing the door, I said, “You can’t blame me. Everytime you say Grayson’s name, it feels like you’re thinking about him, like you miss him or want to be with him since he told you how he feels about you, but it’s not what I thought. I know that now.”

She turned to face me and it was then that I realized what I’d been doing to her. It made me feel awful seeing her glossy eyes. I already couldn’t handle seeing her like that and couldn’t imagine how I was going to feel if those tears would run down her cheeks.

“It’s only been over a day,” she said with emotion as she faced the ceiling to hold back her tears, “but it feels like it’s been happening for a long time. I can’t take it anymore. You won’t even open the car door for me the way you usually do.”
