If there was any way I could put some distance between Grayson and 1, apart from running away like I was seated of him, I was going to take it.

I was still walking straight ahead when Ella suddenly grabbed my wrist to keep me behind her.

“Harper.” Grayson finally called my name as he was close enough, his tone soft and light.

Even though I didn’t respond, 1 slowly turned around to face him with a blank expression. Ella and Zoey were right in front of me to hide me, but I could still see his face as towered over them.

He smiled at me when our eyes met, but all I could think about was what he had done to me.

“Can we talk?” he asked casually.

“She’s busy!” Zoey responded, her tone hostile.

He glanced at her like she was irrelevant. “I wasn’t talking to you. If Harp’s busy, she’ll be the one to tell me that.”

“Harper said she doesn’t want to talk to you,” Ella chimed in, her voice just as hostile. “Why do you think we’re talking for her? Why you just-”

“Ugh! Just shut up.” He scrunched his face with irritation. “I just don’t understand why this has to be your business.”

Even though Ella didn’t say anything right away as she was still trying to process the way he had just spoken to her, she was about to step towards him when I grabbed her by the wrist to stop her.

She stood still, but I could feel her trying so hard pull her wrist away from me.

“You don’t get to talk to my friends like that,” I finally said to him.

He scoffed. “I wouldn’t have to if they would just mind their own business. Now, come on.” He gestured with his head. “We need to talk.”

“I’m busy,” I said bluntly as I tried to keep my voice steady.

He chuckled dismissively. “If anyone’s busy here, it’s me. I own this place now and this is supposed to be an inspection, but here I am, putting it on hold so I can talk to you.”

“Am I supposed to congratulate you?” I sneered.

“No. Just talk to me.”

“I already told you that I’m busy. We all are.”

“Now that’s just bullshit.” He poked his cheek with irritation.

My eyes narrowed with confusion. “Excuse me?”

“How much longer are you going to keep this up? Haven’t I apologized over and over again? What else am I supposed to do? Get down on my knees and beg you to forgive me?”

I knew in my heart that I wasn’t going to forgive him, but I wanted to see what he would do.

Stepping forward with a hand on my hip, I said, “Yes, get down on your knees and beg.”
