Fuck you, Hades Sinclair

Violet

I’ll give you anything you want if you sleep with me and become my sugar baby,

That was exactly how I’d expected this conversation to go today.

I mean, with Hades, you had to be prepared for anything. He was unpredictable. But of all the things he could have said, of all the games he could have played, never in my wildest nightmares would I have expected him to look me in the eye and say, marry me.

What the hell was this? A joke? A prank? Some twisted way to humiliate me?

My brain blanked. My mouth hung open. I just sat there staring at him, frozen, with the glass of water still clutched in my hand like an idiot.

Without warning, my fingers went slack.

The glass slipped from my hand and hit the table with a loud clink, water spilling across the wood in an instant.

The sound jolted me back to myself. My heart leapt violently into my throat.

Oh, god, I’m sorry,I blurted, my voice trembling. I scrambled forward, reaching for the glass with shaking hands, desperate to fix the mess, but before I could touch it, Hades caught my wrist.

Don’t.

I was dazed, his fingers wrapping firmly around mine. His eyes burned into me, like the spilled water soaking the table didn’t matter at all.

Oh, no!A gasp came from the doorway.

Naomi hurried into the dining room, her apron fluttering as she rushed toward me. Her worried face swam into view as she clutched at my free hand.

Are you okay, dear?she asked breathlessly.

I nodded, trying to catch up. II’m sorry. I broke the glass. It’s probably expensive, but I’ll pay for it when I can.

The words tumbled out of me in a rush.

Naomi froze, then looked at me as though I’d just spoken in another language. Her eyes softened as she shook her head firmly.

What are you saying? Pay for it? Forget the stupid glass. She guided my hand away from Hades, gently turning it over in her palms, searching for cuts. “Did it injure you? Do I need to call a doctor?

I stared at her, surprised by her reaction. If it had been anyone else, they’d have snapped at me, demanded I clean it, and made me feel smaller than I already did, but Naomi only looked worried.

Something ached in my chest.

I forced a weak smile, shaking my head. No, I’m okay. I wasn’t injured.

She let out a long sigh of relief and patted my hand before finally looking at the puddle on the table.

Give me a minute, I’ll clean this up before anyone gets hurt, she said, then turned and walked out of the room.

I watched her retreating figure before turning back.

Hades was still watching me.

I leaned back against the chair, my palm dragging through my hair, fingers clutching like I could hold myself together if I just pressed hard enough.

No. I must have heard wrong. I had to have heard wrong. Because there was no way in hell Hades Sinclair had just asked me to marry him.

Men like him didn’t ask women like me to marry them.

I wasn’t the type to drag myself down or compare myself to others, but this was Hades. Even when he was an insufferable pain in the ass, he was still the kind of man every woman looked at and wanted. He had money, power, and looks. There were dozens of elegant, powerful, beautiful women his age who would give him everything.

My lips parted, ready to tell him to repeat himself. But before I could speak, his voice cut through the silence I didn’t make a mistake. I asked you to marry me, Violet.

I froze.

He said it. He really said it.

My throat tightened as I managed to whisper, What? Why would you want me to marry you? Are you even listening to yourself? Why would you think I’d agree to that to begin with?

Because I need it. And like I told you before, I don’t make deals that aren’t beneficial to both parties. I’m sure it will solve most of your problems if you accept my

offer.

I stared at him, blinking rapidly, then shook my head. You’re insane.

Insane? He smirked. I’m a businessman. When I see a good deal, I take it. If you decide to marry me, and bear my child, I’ll give you whatever you want. I’ll protect you, and anyone you care about. You’ll never go through what you went through the night before. It’s the most generous deal I’ve ever offered anyone.

Marry him. Bear his child. Generous deal.

My blood boiled with every word that left his mouth.

If he’d asked me to sleep with him, if he’d offered money like some disgusting cliche, I could have called him an asshole and stormed off. But this felt worse, because the way he looked at me felt like pity.

And I wasn’t a fucking pity case.

Matthew had looked at me like that too, like I was some stray kitten he could pick up and save when he got bored.

Something inside me snapped.

You know what?I said. I pushed to my feet, a smile tugging at my lips though it was anything but sweet. My fingers closed around the glass of water in front of him.

He looked at me like he already knew what I was about to do. But instead of moving back, he just sat there, infuriating smile still tugging at his lips.

Bastard!
