Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 135

Joe finally realized what was happening, and he lunged across the table to grab the phone.

He practically bounced off the sofa, his knee slamming into the coffee table, sending water splashing everywhere, but he didn't even care.

"Are you out of your fucking mind?! Do you know what you're doing?! That's Hudson Lancaster! You're voice-calling him? Are you trying to get me killed?!"

Joe was frantic.

He had painstakingly secured Hudson's contact information and didn't even dare to send a casual greeting, terrified of annoying the man.

And now? This lunatic from Northampton was directly calling him?

What if Hudson got pissed and blocked him?

What if Hudson took his anger out on him?

"Give me the phone!"

But Edmond was half a head taller. He merely raised his arm, keeping it completely out of Joe's reach.

Just then, the call connected.

A deep, chilling voice came through the speaker. "Hello?"

All three men froze simultaneously.

Joe reacted first. Taking advantage of Edmond's momentary stupor, he violently snatched the phone away.

Ferris snapped to his senses, shoving Edmond back onto the sofa and clapping a hand tightly over his mouth.

"H-Hello, Mr. Lancaster..." Joe gulped audibly.

The line fell silent for a second, before a soft, melodic female voice drifted through. "Hudson, can you hand me that..."

It was Nora's voice.

Edmond's body instantly went rigid. He thrashed wildly, the veins bulging on his forehead as if he were trying to hurl Ferris across the room.

Hearing the commotion on the other end, Hudson frowned slightly.

"What is it?"

Joe stammered, "N-Nothing, nothing at all... Just... just wanted to ask when you might be free, so I could treat you to dinner..."

Before he could finish, a sharp beep echoed from the speaker.

The call disconnected.
