Hudson and Arthur walked one after the other through the corridor toward the main living room.

Before entering, they heard crying from inside.

Hudson didn't stop. The moment he pushed the door open, the crying paused noticeably before growing even louder than before.

Many people were seated in the living room.

Beatrice Lancaster sat at the head seat with a somber expression. She wore a dark green dress, her silver hair styled impeccably.

Beside her sat Eleanor and Tiffany Lancaster, both fanning the older woman.

Ginger Joyce sat on a side sofa, sobbing uncontrollably. Her makeup was a mess, her eyeliner smudged, making her look both pathetic and ridiculous.

When Hudson walked in, everyone's eyes landed on him.

"You're here? Sit," Beatrice's expression softened slightly.

Hudson sat in a single armchair to the side. He crossed his long legs, pulled a cigarette from his pocket, and clamped it between his lips without lighting it.

Ginger's crying grew louder. "Mrs. Lancaster Sr., you have to save Silas! He's still lying in the intensive care unit, and those police officers are guarding the door. They won't even let me see him. He..."

Beatrice furrowed her brow. "That's enough. Stop crying. Is crying going to solve the problem?"

Ginger sniffled and quieted down.

Beatrice turned to Hudson, getting straight to the point. "Do you know what happened to Silas?"

Hudson leaned back against the sofa, twirling the unlit cigarette between his fingers. "I heard," he said in a flat tone.

"He was stabbed and is now lying in the ICU, and all you have to say is that you heard?"

Hudson lifted his gaze to look at her. "What exactly do you want me to say?"

Beatrice was choked by his attitude. She took a deep breath, swallowing the words that had reached the tip of her tongue.

After all, he was her favorite grandson. No matter how unruly he was, she would tolerate it.
